MDJunction to me

"When I first came to MDJ, I was in a very dark place, and feeling quite alone, I don't know how I found this site, but I have been very grateful ever since, all of you have offered insight to the illness of Bipolar and the other things going on with me, being here has allowed me to find friends, and to feel safe in discussing things that I would never have shared before.

I believe it has also offered me the chance to reach out and help others. A simple Thank you, is all that I have to offer, to this site and to the wonderful people here.

Hi all, I don't know if this has been mentioned before or not but if it has then just ignore it.

One of the things that helped me the most was getting a waterbed. Sleeping on a regular mattress produced pressure points that would wake me out of a sound sleep (if there is such a thing with Fibro) so I asked my doctor and he said it might help. While a rather expensive purchase, it has done wonders for me.

Just thought I'd throw this in.

Hey...I'm SOO glad you brought this up!! Reason being...I had to get rid of mine and get a firmer, no-spring mattress! When I slept in the waterbed, my body would 'sag' in places and then in the morning I would be worse than before I went to bed because of everything being so relaxed and out of proportion I guess I'd call it!

Anyhow, I'm glad you started this thread so that we can see what works best for everyone else and maybe get and give ideas to others that don't know what to do for a bed! I know it took me a long time and a lot of money to finally figure out what worked for me and what made me worse!

I'm glad you found that a waterbed works for you! And, hopefully others can benefit from you sharing your experience!

Thanks Suzee, see there's an example right there of what works for one may not work for another. Was yours a full bladder type because mine is the tube kind so it has limited motion and is firmer that the bladder type.

I found that the best kind of bed that works for me is a sleep number air mattress. IT's great because I can have it soft when I need it to be and then firmer when I need it to be!

A heated waterbed worked for awhile but then it made me actually hurt more.

We also have a pillow top mattress on the guest bed and that works good for me sometimes too.

Hmmm... I used to LOVE my waterbed - but it was horrible for hubby and his back (he has spina bifida)... but now with his back... well we sleep apart

So I was thinking of going BACK to the waterbed...

One thing my doctor told me with regards to my stiff morning back {so stiff I can't wipe my backside if needed} was that my bed might be TOO soft...

We have an "ok" mattress with 4 inches of foam on top...

If I sleep for only a few hours then I am ok - if I sleep for a LONG time I wake up really sore and stiff... it goes away after a while - it is like the muscles are seized up for a bit... with just sitting it will relax...

Now I am not sure what to think...
