Jan, I believe that your rheumy has given you good advice to let him know EVERYTHING you are taking, because herbs and supplements that don't require Rx ARE drugs and often have bad side effects, allergic reaactions, or interact with the Rx drugs you are taking, or as you say, duplicate what your Rx meds are doing. It does not have to be an either/or situation and many doctors are knowledgeable about which supplements, herbs, vitamins, etc work and which ones are to be avoided.

You may need to consult a "naturopathic" physician to find someone knowledgeable about both conventional medicine and supplements.

I don't post here to be populat but to tell the truth.

What is difficult about hearing the truth?

Why do you not want to know what supplements will reduce your level of pain?

Why do you not want to hear what supplements will make you physically stronger.

Why do you think that doctors such as Dr Davis of the heartscanblog suggest 4000iu/daily of vitamin d3 will help heart disease.

Why do you not want to understand why doctors like Dr McCleary of the Brain Trust program suggest Vitamin D is required for optimal brain health?

Do you have a problem with the truth?

Ted...

YOU are ABSOLUTELY COMPLETELY WRONG!!!!!!!!!!

I'm pretty new here so I won't get into a big ugly battle with you...but you can pm me and I will be ever so happy to battle this out with you!

YOu better come at me with more then ONE LOUSY article form only one source!!! I have MANY that can and will show you that you are WRONG and maybe dead wrong if you keep taking the amount of vitamin D that you currently are!

GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT BEFORE YOU WANT TO BATTLE WITH ME!!! I KNOW MY FACTS BEFORE I POST ON A PUBLIC COMMUNITY BOARD!!!

What you are posting is UNTRUE and can HARM PEOPLE!!!

It is a FACT that in the summer by only spending 15-20 minutes per day in the direct sunlight you CAN and WILL be giving your body ENOUGH sunshine! This has been MEDICALLY PROVEN!!!

Also that in the WINTER months Cod Liver Oil DOES supply your body with enough/plenty of Vitamin D...well enough that you should NOT take it in the SUMMMER months as well because you will get TOO MUCH!!!

Passing INCORRECT INFORMATION on a community board is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! Not everyone will do their homework and will just take your word for it and you are WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please anyone considering this please consult your dr. Dont just take the word of someone who isnt a dr.But think about the quality of the advice you are given. If it makes sense then fine follow it.

The supplements that are recommended as anti inflammatory for MS are equally anti inflammatory for FMA or PPS or any other inflammatory condition.

Of course if you like taking medicines that are expensive and have nasty side effects you will enjoy being ill for the rest of your life.

Your doctor makes money by prescribing medicines that have side effects. He is then able to prescribe more medicines to deal with those side effects.

If you like more side effects then good for you.

Your doctor will NOT prescribe Vitamin d in an effective form.

They prescribe D2

The effective form is D3.

Now ask yourself why is that?

Why don't health professionals want you to take the most effective form of Vitamin D?

Now remember these are not my suggestions but those of Direct MS org and you can look on their website for all the information supporting their use. They are all backed by good science. As they are safe for people with MS, and for people with heart disease and people with brain damage they are also safe for you.

Now why don't you want to get well?

No I am absolutely right. I have been reading all the information on Vitamin D that has been published over the last few years.

I know what I am talking about.

the amount of Vitamin D you need daily is around 3000-5000iu.

While it may be true in some parts of the world you can 20 minutes full body sun exposure may provide adequate sun exposure for most of the world you need longer. See the calculator here. The Vitamin D Sunlight Exposure Calculator. the problem is that for much of the world Winter prevent UVB reaching the ground and it is too cold to take your clothes off to get full body sun exposure.

5minutes full body sun exposure raises 1000iu Turn over and thats 2000iu repeat the process and that's 20 minutes and your times up and only 4000iu are raised. So how do you get your stores built up for the winter.? Remember the half life of vitamin d is 3 weeks so what you store will in 3 weeks be 50%

Use you common sense.

Also that in the WINTER months Cod Liver Oil DOES supply your body with enough/plenty of Vitamin D... No it doesn't 5ml CLO provides 400iu only your body uses 4000iu/daily 400iu is NOT SUFFICIENT.

I provide links to all the claims I make. Go to The vitamin D council and you will see the research there. Get yourself up to date.

More people die from low levels of vitamin d than have ever suffered ill effects from it. You need more Vitamin D than previously thought necessary that is why although you can find plenty of out of date information to support your claims the latest information is the only information that is correct.

We know that using only the current RDA leaves people vitamin d insufficient.

It would seem to me that if large doses of vitamins would cure or at least alleviate this Fibro, that all Dr would know about it.Do you really think that doctors would work themselves out of a job?

Why do you think doctors continue to use Vitamin D2 when they know it's D3 that does the good work?

Besides large doses of any vitamin even tho natural can have serious even fatal consequences especially taken along with prescribed medications. Now do your homework. Find out how many people die each year from medically prescribed drugs and then how many die from vitamin supplement use. The tell me which are the most dangerous.

It is far more dangerous not to have sufficient vitamin d than to have a little too much. These cardiovascular disease, hypertension, stroke, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, periodontal disease, macular degeneration, mental illness, propensity to fall and chronic pain all come from too little vitamin d.

If you take too much vitamin d what happens, you feel ill you stop taking vit d and it's the end of the matter. No problem But tell me when you ever heard of anyone having too much vitamin d. Find me the evidence and provide a link to it.

To PROVE your ignorance about Vitamin D....

I will just simply say...IF you have been reading and so all fired knowledgable about Vitamin D as you claim,

You would then KNOW that you absorb MORE through your "RETINA's" then you ever will through your SKIN!!!!!!!

Hence why you do NOT wear sunglasses or sunblock during your 15-20, minutes of sunlight each day.

YOU just want to argue and sorry but I don't have time to waste on people like you! YOU ARE IN FACT IGNORANT in this matter and therfore NEED to STOP POSTING on a COMMUNITY BOARD about something you obviously know NOTHING about!

YOUR infromation is WRONG and so are you...period!

Good Day

I resent you claiming to know more than any dr. here in my town. But I back up my claims with good evidence. I am right.

Inflammation causes pain.

Low grade inflammation is a part of FMS.

You can reduce the amount of NSAIDS you use by improving your natural antiinflammatory status.

the supplements suggested by direct ms org are safe and will improve the Quality of Life for FMS patients.

they will work even better if you also adopt the anti inflammatory diet as well or any paleo/low carb varient. There are two presentations here That will help you get up to date with how diet causes illness and a rather old vitamin d talk that is now a touch out of date but still worth listening to.

OH MY GOD TED: Do you really think we LIKE to be sick? I turn to doctors for help with all of my illnesses!!!! I cannot believe you said the words you did in the first part of this post! Yes, all medicines have side effects, but if a certain med helps relieve even 80% of our pain or problems, then I think its worth it!!! Doctors are in their profession to HELP people, not to make money....or at least that is the reason MY doctor went into the medical field! Read a bill from them sometime and see how much they REALLY get paid after all the cuts, etc that insurance make them take!

Your a jerk and you've really upset me. TO UPSET PEOPLE WITH YOUR POSTS IS NOT THE REASON FOR THIS FORUM. PLEASE SOMEONE MAKE HIM LEAVE!!!!!

Get a job and get off this forum PLEASE !!!!!!! I don't want to hear one complaint from you about your fibro. Go join the MENTAL health forum!!!

Sorry to everybody else on this forum subject, but Ted's words have gone TOO FAR this time.

Folks....PLEASE have your Vitamin D levels checked with a blood test BEFORE you decide to try Vitamin D supplementation!!! PLEASE

Yes, most are lacking enough Vitamin D...but a good DR. will first have you try getting your levels up by doing 20 min day in sunlight with no sunglasses or sunblock and have you take a good cod liver oil in the winter months. Then re-check and if still not getting enough will "then" suggest Vit D supplements...good ones!
