Why are people with Fibromyalgia left to suffer?

I see the difference in those who have pain meds and those who don't on the board. I'm not saying by any means that the ones with pain meds suffer any less, but if you read through here you will notice the ones who don't recieve pain meds are the ones who seem on the verge of a melt down.

I'm currently not on anything at the momment and I'm always on the verge of some kind of break down because the pain is truelly intense and to much to handle most days.

It's so sad that people seem to be ignored when they are crying out for the doctors to help them.

Can someone please explain why people with fibromyalgia are treated the way they are when they ask for pain meds?

In other illnesses the pain is treated right away but here people suffer and allot of the time nothing is done.

Fibromyalgia cannot be verified. Physicians cannot see the problem that is causing the pain. There is no difinitive testing for fibro therefore to some physicians and people it does not exists. Hope that makes sense.

Seeing is believing and for some, like Sandi says, if does not show on an xray or a test, then it does not exist. They symptoms are subjective, the docs have little objective findings..... Does this make it right? Absolutely NOT! But it is the reality that we deal with..... It is so very frustrating!

I think you are right. I dont have narcs. I have to watch what I do so carefully. It is hard for me even to get dressed. My dr. acknowledges the pain but does not prescribe any narcs. She gives me 10 trigger point injections every month. Now I will be getting botox injections starting next month if insurance will cover it.
I have dystonia, neuropathy, gerd, arthritis, and fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel and other ailments. I enjoy embroidery, music, and reading my Bible and Christian books. I love to bake. I try to be very supportive and positive.

Unfortunately, most Dr's still don't believe that Fibro is REAL!!!

That's why trying some "natural products" will be a benefit

AND the med's they prescibe are horrible any way and have awful side effects.

I am on the verge of a meltdown and still take meds. I cannot tolerate the real strong ones anymore, probably due to the fibro. My doctor did put me on Tramadol. However, I find that most of the meds don't help much anyway. Especially in the cold and damp weather. My sisters did research when they found out I had fibro, so in my own circle I have had no problems with people believing me. But I think the majority of people don't believe in what they cannot see. I do walk with alot of stiffness which makes at least something a little visable. I just think more awareness needs to be made of fibro. See if your doctor will let you try Tramadol for some pain relief. If not, find another doctor that will listen to you nd allow you to try meds you hear about. Lyrica was definitely not one for me or nurontin. Prayers are with you.

I get pain meds, but they dont give them to me for the fibro. I get them for my back problems. not that they do all that much. My husband is tired of seeing me melt down. I probably have between 1&4 melt downs for one reason or another every week

this is why we need to get the word out there more about awarness day.

Mydragonfly, bingo! I get pain meds freely from my docs because I have severe arthritis. I dont think I would get them if I just had fibro. I believe that someone with fibro should get at least a muscle relaxer, an antianxiety med, an anti inflammatory, a pain pill and a sleep aid. But that is my opinion.
