Hi everyone,

I have read that trauma (like an accident or war zone etc.) can be linked to this disease? Also that genetics may play a role as well.

Sooooo...Have all of us experienced some kind of trauma or had a family funeral lately? I've got them both covered. At least I believe my mom may have carried this gene as well. She always complained that her low back and down her legs, ached and hurt. She never got tested and I suppose the doctors figured that the surgery would be worse than the pain. Any thoughts on this theory?

Sue

Well, my Fibro symptoms started after my hysterectomy. But that was like my UMteenth surgery! I remember going through this really weird 'thing' right after my surgery within the 6 week 'healing' period though. It was like twitching all over my body and my limbs were literally jerking all over and my entire upper half would come up...from a laying down position to sitting straight up and I had a what???...8 inch incision on my lower abdomen...full of staples. Sorry if TMI!

Anyhow, I'm really not too sure how soon after that I started getting the symptoms...but I'm almost sure that's what 'triggered it'.

Also, my mom tells me that she thinks my dad's mother had it. But just was never diagnosed. She tells me that she was ALWAYS hurting and always fatigued! I've yet to ask my dad though...I'm afraid of the answer I guess, maybe?! I don't know but I've heard the same as you and well...now that I've typed all of that...I guess I've got both covered as well!!

I too believe that the surgery may have triggered my symptoms or at least brought them to head.

I have also suffered through some real trauma in the last two years. I took care of my mom when she was diagnosed with lung cancer (never smoked a day in her life). Watching your mother die and not able to do a damn thing about is quite stressful. Four months later my sisters husband had surgery and was dead the next morning. He left a wife and 4 kids behind. My sister is a mess. Then two months after that my daughter was on her way to her college and there was an accident in which a woman on her bicycle was hit and killed. I went to the scene that morning and it was like going through a war zone. My mind is still not ready to deal with that one.

There is more but you get the picture. I had surgery 15 months after all this and I just feel that the stress, depression and physical condition may have played a part in all of this. I have also suffered from social anxiety for several years now.

I suppose everyone here has had similar stories about trauma or surgeries. I just wish our government agencies would wake up and give SSD to the ones who need it.

Hugs back!!!

Sue

Mine came afer a minor car accident and whiplash injury. Neck pain-migraines-facial pain-shoulder pain-all over body pain. That's the story. An unlikely case they say.

Supposedly mine came after having a silicone breast implant after I had reconstruction after a mastectomy. I think however that was also around the time my 19 yr old sister died in a car accident that I was diagnosed so could be trauma.

I was hit head on in 1987 by a drunk driver. THAT MOMENT is when my headaches, backaches, shoulder, neck and back tightness all started! I was 16!!! I've had headaches ever since, but I don't think I can blame it on Fibro since I didn't notice any other symptoms until what...10 years or so later.

I don't remember any trauma in my life such as an accident, never had surgery or any problems in childhood. I think mine came from stress alone and so does my doctor. After 16 years working with the phone cradled on my shoulder, the computer, both my parents with alzheimer's, etc. I also think that we try to take on everyone else's problems to help them and then they forget about the little bump in their world and forget to tell us so we worry longer and they are already on to something new. Or maybe that is just me.

I will tell you my doctor also told me when I lost my hair that I was a type A personality never thought of myself as one but he said that I was and that was a large reason that I was having problems. Their is good stress and bad stress your body doesn't know the difference it just knows it's in the fight or flight mode alot and then it breaks down. Jean

Jean, I was told I was Type A personality also and that contributes a lot to my fibro.

Okay...call me an idiot but how many 'types' are there? I'd like to know so I can google this! I've always heard the saying "Type A Personality"...but I thought it was just a saying! I had NO idea it was a 'real thing'. I'm sorry to go off topic, but I could use your input! I really wanna look into this!!

Thanks in advance!

You are not an idot. I didn't really know much about it either. Their is the A the one who takes charge, the leader. Type B the social butterfly, then their is type C don't know what they do, type D is a detail person or maybe that is type C. Not thinking good today. Type A is very competetive, a perfectionist. So that is why I didn't think I was but the dermatolgist that I saw about my hair loss said he knew it the minute I walked in the door. Type A written all over me. Jean
