FM really started hitting me two years ago and I was diagnosed in Jan 2008. As I read the personal struggles of many of you, I wonder if I am going to have many "new challenges" ahead.

I feel that over the last two years I have gotten worse but my doctor says that it is not a progressive disease. I would love your opinion on this, please.

Thank you for reading my post and more importantly, thank you for caring enough about others to apart of this FM support group.

Amy I dont think anyone can really answer this because everyones pain is different. I have had it since the early 90s and I have had some periods of time when I felt great, then relapsed and felt worse. What I wish I HAD done a long time ago is start an exercise routine and kept at it. Now my muscles and bones are so atrophied and weak I just cannot exercise. Plus my heart issues are a mess right now too.

So it might get worse for you and then again maybe not. Sorry couldnt have a better answer.

Amy, I agree with what mamanordy said. I have had the fibro for 17yrs now and must say that it really waxes & wanes. It was really the worst for me when I was first dx but that was also because of work injuries...had to work thru the pain to try & get better. Over the years there have been times when I felt absolutely great - when I was pregnant was 2 of those times. Too bad I couldn't be preggo all the time.

I also agree that exercise does help. I don't do a strenuous exercise routine...I just try to walk when I can. Now that it's getting nicer outside that will be easier.

So, I don't think anyone can really answer the ? of if it will get worse or not...that really depends on a lot of things including if you have other medical issues. So, best of luck to you. Keep asking the ?'s though, cuz that's how we all learn.

Hi,

If I were you I would diffinately get started on some sort of exercise regimen NOW...BEFORE it has a chance to get worse!

Water exercises are GREAT for Fibro!!! Check out a class at your local Y or health club. I think that not exercising of some kind is the biggest mistake that we fibro sufferes can make. Yes it's very difficult to do at times but it's THE MOST IMPORTANT thing we CAN DO FOR OURSELVES!!! By keeping ourselves moving it will help the pain and keep it from getting worse.

Best Wishes for you

Thank you for your input. I know that each one of us is different and so is our FM. I guess I was just trying to ask the unanswerable question.

I really appreciate nanaof4 advice because that makes sense.

I just hear about many of us going on disability, or trying to, and wanted to know when they knew it was time to stop struggling through one work day after another.

I am fighting and fighting to keep a "normal life" but I feel like I am fighting a losing battle. At times, I either can't get up for work in time or can go in altogether and I make up excuses because I don't want to loose my job.

I am trying to go fulltime because I need the money but find myself praying that I can't find a fulltime job because I am worried that I can't "handle" it.

I feel like such a quitter at times and I just wondered if I need to prepare for an even bigger fight down the road. I am 40 now and I hopefully have a long road ahead of me ... I could do without the FM though.

For something thats not progressive it sure is funny it all started with a little pain in my knee and from there it took off. I was working full time when my knee started to hurt and then it went to my other knee, legs, ankles, and feet so I had to stop working. Now it's basically everywhere.

Yes I know what you mean about "progressing". Mine started with a daily headache about 2 years ago, then my feet went numb, then pain started in ankles, knees, hips, back, and so on. It defintely seemed to progress to a point where lots of things hurt every day.......next came the inability to sleep, brain fog, fatigue. When it gets to the point you have so many different symptoms that you feel crazy it finally stops "progressing"! Ha

Hi there, and welcome to all of our new friends. I am just getting back on after a couple of weeks of being too sick or tired to get on so I apologize that it has taken so much time to welcome you all to our family.

I have noticed that things come in cycles. I will do well for a couple of weeks durring the summer and then it progressively gets worse through the fall and winter. I have noticed though that even the good times are worse each year and the bad times are much worse. I dont know if that is because I have had some other heath issues come up or what is going on.

I can see that I have been getting worse with each year and I just dont know what to do anymore!

I hope this help you. Nobody really knows how to answer our questions and there really needs to be research done to figure this thing out. I hope you keep asking and that we can provide some insight. Its a crazy life, but with each other to lean on we can do it. I look foward to seeing all of you in the forums.

Much love, soopergirl

See, that is what I mean. I feel like it all started with headaches (which I NEVER use to have ... and it still could have been just old age ... OR MY KIDS! ) then I started getting nubness in my fingers and toes, then thinking and speaking issues started (Fibrofog!!! duh!!! ) then fatigue and now pain. (I always slept like crap so that was nothing new. )

Thanks takeitaway and cadburry! Now I feel better about starting this discussion.

I appreciate what everyone else has said too and I appreciate everyone who takes time to respond so THANK YOU EVERYONE! Keep posting if you have any input, the more I hear the more I understand that I am not alone.

soopergirl,

You put that into words so well. I think everyone can relate to that in one way or another. It makes sense.

Thank you for your post and it is good to have you back. I am fairly new here and I think I found a place to call home.

HUGS!

Amy
