MDJunction to me

"All I can say is that this has been the best place ever. It has been six to seven months since I joined, and I have learned so much. I now believe in myself and accept myself on a completely different level. The people on MDJunction has been so supportive and accepting that I have been able to adopt it into my personal life. That has reduced a lot of stress in my life. Thanks to all." (bunnyfly)

Hi! I'm new to this site. I was wondering if any of you have heard of an Alpha-Stim Unit? My PT has been using it to treat my fibro.pain.

He uses the unit with ear clips. It has helped 91% out of 2,500 fibro.patients with their pain according to a recent study. I'm feeling much better. My insurance company is covering most of the cost for treatments. Please let me know if you've ever used an Alpha-Stim Unit?

Thanks so much,

Is this similar to the technology that Physical Therapists use to help muscles retract and contract? I was reading what it does and if so it seems like it has produces less actual physical sensations and apparently more benefits from the lower voltage.

Sounds very interesting. How long did it take for your insurance to approve it and were there many steps you had to take?

Thanks for the post. I think this could be something I would be willing to try if my insurance covers it.

I'm not sure if I can give out the e-mail address for the Alpha-Stim, soooooo here's the phone number 1-800-For-Pain. They will answer any questions you have about the unit.

It took less than a week for my insurance co. to approve paying 80% on the unit. You must have a prescription from your doctor before you do anything. I'm not using the company I gave you the phone number for, because they are out of my network. My PT wanted me to use them. He's crazy if he thinks I'm paying over $800.00 to use the company that makes Alpha-Stim. I called my insurance co. and they gave me lists of in-network providers. That's how I found out that my insurance company will pay 80% and I'll pay 20% for the unit.

I've had 6 sessions and it seems to be working. My PT claims it could take up to three week before a difference is felt, but I'm already noticing a difference. I'm sold on the product.

Cool, thanks for the info. Now that I think of it, I'll most likely get a list of in-network providers for that kind of unit. But I'm interested. During my PT they used I believe it's called a TENS unit. It did take the pain away for awhile.

This claims to take the pain away longer, so as long as I'm not shelling out 800 bones it's worth a try.

Thanks again.

hey guys, you should be able to buy a tens unit for about a hundred bucks. Also if you have good insurance the purchaseshould be covered as DME Durable Medical Equipment (like eight diabetic glucose meter). according to Starlenyl the TENS doesn't put out enough juice for trigger point. But it's quite effective for spot pain relief. I like it a lot better than ice and you can leave the house with the electrodes attached to the part that hurts. an additional benefit for you ladies is that by drinking 12 ounces of Gatorade and attaching the electrodes on a Meridian located just above your ankles for about 40 minutes before making whoopee it does some acupuncture/Acupressure stimulation that enhances your sensual experience. being a man can't actually tell you that I've tried it and it works.

I can tell you that before my body totally gave out and we put sex on the back burner (too much information?) my wife tried it & just gets red faced & very quiet when I mention this use in public. I've been looking for the link to the web site for the people who sell a modified tens unit for this purpose when I find it I'll post it

American Ladybug,

I have a TENS Unit and all it did was aggravate my fibro.

I wasted hard earned money on 20% of the cost. My insurance co. covered the other 80% of the cost. Back when I bought mine they were very expensive. My doctor had to write a prescription for it. It's hard to use by yourself. I hated to keep asking my husband and daughter to place the electrode pads on my back. I was not please with the unit at all. This is only my opinion---other people love them. My skin must be too sensitive! I have been very happy with the Alpha-Stim which is painless to use----again that is my opinion.
