Hello everyone - My name is Sue and I have recently been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia along with depression, Osteoarthritis, fatigue and all the rest that goes with this disease. I have been suffering with the symptoms for a few years now but finally have a name to the problem.

My Orthopedic doctor has been using Botox injections on my neck, armpit, back and shoulders and the most sensitive, in my skull. The pain in my head and the base of my skull is VERY intense. It is hard to sit at a table and eat or anything that requires me to look down for very long. My question is: Has anyone else been given these shots and did they ultimately do any good? This is the second time (5 syringes and 16 needle pokes yikes!). I don't want to do this again if it is not going to help me.

By the way, today is my 45th birthday. Wish I were having a pain free day.

Thanks for any help,

Sue

Sue, welcome to the group and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I'm sorry that you have to suffer with the fibro, but am grateful that you found us! You may have a lot of questions, and there is great info here on this site. If you have any trouble finding it, just ask away and we'll help you. Everyone here is so caring and compassionate that you'll feel right at home in no time.

I have not tried the Botox injections, so I can't answer to that. Maybe someone else can give you some input on their experience with it.

Again welcome to the group! Sending you many birthday hugs filled with love (((((HUGS))))

Welcome to the group Sue.

I am sorry to say that botox didn't work for me.

I will tell you that I didn't have a wrinkle in my forehead. I was beautiful (for about 2 months)

Thank you Cathryn, I am also being treated with pain meds, lyrica and a few others. The botox is supposed to help with my migraines. It takes about 2 weeks for the pain to subside. The last time they did this, my throat became paralyzed and I was on a liquid diet for 3-4 weeks. Guess it was a good weight loss program LOL. I can't handle the pain in my skull though. I will take your advice and look into other options.

Thank you for the hugs, I needed it tonight. whew!! It gets intense sometimes.

I am very glad to have found this group. It is hard to explain to family and friends how you are feeling. Sometimes I feel like they just don't get it. I do have a few questions and hope to find answers here.

Tonight however I will start with Hello. I don't think that I can handle the computer for very long. Think my heating pad is calling me.

Talk to you soon!

Sue

I had my botox for migraines also. About 40 injections in all. All over my shoulders and hair line, one my head, around my eyebrows, b/t my eyes. I also had a nerve block at the occipital nerve that same day. I went home with one side of my head numb and a little nauseated but I never had any relief from the migraines.

Why is your orthopedic doctor treating you for migraines?

I fell two years ago and tore my rotator cuff almost completely through. Orthopedics did the surgery and has been treating me for not only post op care but for nerve damage in my shoulders, arms and neck ssociated with the injury. He is the one who discovered the Fibromyalgia and sent me to a Rheumatologist for further testing.

He also treats my knees and siatic nerve. Another Orthopedic Surgen does my spine injections L3L4L5.

(I also tested positive for ankylosing spondilitis this is why they are concerned about my spine and hips.

Maybe I have too many physicians in my kitchen.

Welcome and a belated Happy Birthday to you.

You couldn't have gone to a better place or been with a better group of people for your birthdday than right here. (Although you can tell, we all get in such a hurry we forget to spell.) I used to try to go back and correct them, but I decided it added charm

Again, welcome,

Kathy

Hi Sue & welcome to the forum

I have had 4 rounds of the botox injections. I feel they work better when I get them in the shoulder/traps area.

I had them done twice in my neck/hairline area of my skull & never again

I was not able to move my head/neck

So my Physiatrist has recommended me to another Physiatrist. I only saw him once so far & he wants to see my cervical scan before he does anything. I go back in May.
