i dream of a doctor who keeps up with new info, and knows what goes on in our bodies, and cares. someone who wants to learn. i have told each one of my doctors if you want to learn about this stuff, go to a forum. go to a few... read, for goodness sake. yeah?

on a mission right now in fact of my ownto find an fms dr. in my area, or even not so close! and i will let you know the differences, i hope there will be plenty.

it just accured to me, that if i were to ask my doctor, in a nice way, (she is a good general dr.) maybe she might get interested in what we have to say. i will invite her here, if thats ok. and she may get interested. who knows. i am anxious to hear from you guys the same thing noelie asked.

and good luck noelie!

I think it is just a matter of finding one that you hit it off with that will LISTEN to you. I had a very good rhemy who really LISTENED, but he didn't always hear everything. I have been telling him for over 6 yrs. that I fight the fever's and chills and the only thing that works to get rid of them, is the hydrocodone. He has NEVER responded to me. I think he just doesn't believe me. He got to the point of throwing his hands up and saying that he just didn't think there was anything else he could do to help me, because I was just getting worse and worse and not improving. Well, that would be because it is a progresssive disease. But he DID listen to me, and if I asked about a specific med I had heard about on the forums he would always say NO PROBLEM, and write me a script. Except of course for the stuff I really need, like Medical marajuana, or morphine shots. He kept telling me that I needed to reduce the amount of pain meds I take and I was like, "are you crazy, the amount I am taking now isn't even denting the pain, and you want me to take LESS!!" I think he was really trying, and he understood the illness as best he could, but doesn't understand the degree of pain.

So I tried a new rhemy, and she was so harsh. Just sat at her little laptop, taking notes and asking questions. Made comments about how I was taking too much for pain (how can it be too much if it doesn't take the pain away, I dont'get that!!) and how I needed to reduce what I was taking. I didn't like her demeanor AT ALL!!! Very upity!! So I finally gave up and went to see a new GP (we recently moved) he was SO VERY understanding, and LISTENED to everything I said, and completely was empatheic about the pain. He almost felt like he had experienced FM, but of course, he isn't able to hand out the pain meds on a regular basis. (Oh, and just so you know, he also said I was taking a very high amount of hydrocodone, but was nice about it.) He was the one who said I HAD to go to a PAIN MANAGEMENT doc. So I did and once again, heard I was taking TOO MUCH, and was reduced in my amount. I am going backwards with these guys, and can't afford to just go out and see a new one every week until I find the right one! I want to find someone who lives in my area who has a great doc and can tell me BEFORE hand, "Yeah, he will give you what you need, and is a good doc! Doesn't give you crap about your meds!" But nothing is ever that easy is it?!?!?

I'm glad to hear this! I see you live in Odessa. I lived in KCMO for 18 years. I wasn't diagnosed correctly until I moved to the Chicago area. It IS a long drive for you. I hope it's worth it!!!! Keep us posted.

I'm also happy for you! I wish you the best of luck. It's so very important to have a good fibro. doc. I had a fibro. specialist, Dr. Patrick Wood. Some of you may have heard of him. He has done much needed research on fibro.... Anyway he moved to Washington D.C. to be with his wife. I sure do miss him. I've only seen jerks since he moved. Sorry, that wasn't nice. I've had some bad experiences! I can't find a good doc. in North Louisiana.
