Is this normal..? Ilium/Pelvic/Iliac Crest Pain

Hi everyone. I am a 27 year old female and I've had FM for about 10 years now. I am having a problem I am not familiar with and wondered if anyone else has had this or has any input on it?

About a year ago, I started having pelvic pain. I had several tests, (2 CT scans, colonoscopy, pelvic ultrasound) but everything was negative. A few months after that, the pelvic pain left and I was so happy.

In about February, it returned - I don't know for sure that it is the same pain, but it feels like it and is also now on the right side as well.

I was pushing and feeling where it hurts and I discovered I have very sore lumps around my iliac crest and the tissue directly on top of the ilium feels gross, like mashed potatoes. It is so sore too. I had a deep tissue massage yesterday and when she pushed on these areas, I thought I was going to die. Is there a muscle that overlays the ilium? I have tried to find that info online but have not been able to find a name for it. Anyone have any ideas of where I should go from here? I have just started Savella about a week ago for FM but that is all I do currently.

Hi,

Most of my pain is in my lowerback, pelvic area and legs. I have bowel and urinary issues and also have tender spots in my lower abdomen just above my pubic line. I am sorry, I dont know what an iliac crest is.

I went last week for a steroid injection in my spine and after the numbness wore off there was no change. The spine specialist says there is alot of damage in my spine that could be the reason for most of my pain. A bulging disc, degeneration, stenosis, nerves are getting hit by bones...I dont know. Its so frustrating.

I do not know about if there are muscles or anything there but I will tell you that I have a lot of pain in those areas too. I also have a lot of pain in my hips if I lay down, it does not matter which way. I have to constantly move or I will have severe pain.

The Iliac crest is where most of the hip and pelvis muscles connect, and yes it is normal with Fibro for these to get tender, especially when pressure is applied, try some gentle massage of the area.

My hips, right mostly, was the first symptoms of my Fibro. This is before I had even ever heard of Fibro. I have hip pain and pelvic pain. Back when my right hip hurt so bad, I actually thought they would find bone cancer, that is what goes through your mind when you hurt and feel so bad. It is quite amazing to me that we feel the way we do and it is not deadly or even life threatening.

I was actually totally relieved to find out that my hip and pelvic pain were a disorder such as Fibro. Who would have thunk? LOL.
