Curious to know how many others diagnosed with FM also have spine/back problems. I've been wondering if my "FM symptoms" are the result of spinal anomalies or if the spinal anomalies are a result of the FM.

So first question is: Do you have any abnormal conditions of the spine, such as scoliosis, degenrative disc disease, disc bulge, spondylolisthesis, nerve compression, arthritis, osteoarthritis, slipped disc, cervical kyphosis, etc. and if so, which one?

And the next question: What evaluations/treatment/follow-up have your doctors done for the condition?

What is your question? Is this how you got fibro? I had a traumatic injury to the brachial plexus and now my doc feels this is what caused the fibro. Any thoughts?

[li]Hello, I have spinal problems. I had c3-4,c4-5,and c5-6 fused several years ago. I had surgery to fix the herniated discs but ended up back 6 months later to get the fusion done. At that time they said that I had bulging discs in the T11-12 and somewhere close to my tailbone and that I had degenrative disc disease. I didn't have Fibro before this that I know of and it was several years after my surgery for spine troubles that the fibro started. I have had several other surgeries in the past 2 years(all abdominal). They think I got fibro from the trauma of surgery and being abused as a child. (Not sure what abuse has to do with this). Chris

Scoliosis, DDD with facet sydrome, bulging disc at L3-L4, osteoarthritis.

Been seeing a chiropractor for 14 years now, and he was the first one to diagnose fibro on top of my back problems. I was diagnosed with DDD by an orthopedic surgeon at age 30, when I was told that I had the spine of a 65 year old woman. I don't know if the spine problems have anything to do with the fibro, but it does seem that an awful lot of us have spine/back issues. Maybe there is a connection somewhere?

Yes, it is amazing to me that we represent a very small fraction of all the people diagnosed with FM in world, and yet there's this many of us with spine issues. Wonder what the percentage would be nationwide? I think there is a lot yet to be understood with spine problems and that leaves back pain, and the like, one of the hardest complaints for doctors to treat. I've read several articles about FM occuring after a back injury, but never any reasonable explanation as to why. Maybe one day someone will take an interest in this and foucs a little research in the area.

Seeing a chiropractor helps my back alot. Sciatica is a problem. But chronic mid to upper back pain is the work. The chiropractor is only a band aid though because my muscles spasm and tense alot and that pulls my spine, shoulders, collarbone, sternum and ribs out of the right positions.

I've had the bone scan which uses radioactive dye to look for chostocronditis (or however you spell it), bone breakages, arthritis - all was negative. Have had MRI's and lots of x-rays. Nothing shows up as a problem anywhere.

I would imagine in my case the muscle spasms could eventually beget permanent bone problems, but as of yet, maybe because of chiropractic? i I don't know, no test shows a problem with my skeletal system.

very good poll Tammy. I have scoliosis, a bone spur in my neck which I feel it is connected. I find it funny how we as patients can come up with idealism of our symptoms. Those who have a degree cannot! I have not been told I have fibromyagia as of yet. But they want to prescribe me Lyrica. Which makes me wonder?????? Nero tells me one thing and the doc tells me another. Hmmmmmm kind of suspicious. Why can't they just come out with it and tell me if they know. Sorry I started venting. Anyways I think this poll thing is a great idea and I think I (as group leader in migraine) will use this poll in there. I hope you don't mind.
