My doctor just recently told me that I have Fibromyalgia. She sent me home telling me to read about it and a free 7 day trial for Lyrica.

I have been telling this doctor that I have pain here there and every where and now all of a sudden after a year she says Fibromyalgia. I was so afraid of telling her every time I got a new ache and pain because I knew already that she wasn't beleiving me.

I would really like to hear from you on how you have been treated by doctors when they learn you have Fibromyalgia.

thank you

In a sentence... "Dropped like a hot potato." After I was diagnosed with fibro, any new complaint I had was attributed to the fibro and no further evaluation was deemed necessary. I've had to fight for everything I felt wasn't related. For example, I had symptoms of peripheral neuropathy that I was told, time and again, was only the fibro and could not be treated unless I went on anti-depressants. It was almost a year later and took my changing doctors to finally get a referral to a neurologist. I was started on Lamictal for nerve pain and within a few weeks, the neuropathy had almost completely vanished. I know those who have suffered with FM for years have fought long and hard to get the diagnosis, but it has been more of a curse for me.

Cadbury; Unfortunately there is no test for Fibro. The only way they diagnose it,is by checking for anything else that may have the same symptom. Beleive me the majority of us have been through this. Good luck

I thought for a long time that it was just artheritis and then i started having alot of neck and shoulder pain. As if I couldnt hold my head up. My family dr referred me toa rhemotologit, who did a whole lot of blood work ...all came back fine. Then he done what they call a pressure point test. He applied pressure to all 18 of the pressure points on my body. The results were severe pain in 13 of the areas he touched. So that is how I was diagnosed. It is very depressing, makes me very angry, but I am Not gonna let it get the best of me. I love life too much. I think I cause a lot of the pain to be worse because I wont give into it. I take meds that do help espically to get a good nite of sleep. ( about the only time i really find releif). I like the quote I read on here....live for today, because we are not promised tomorrow. And I have one of my own.."Dont take life too seriously, it isnt permanent". Always think Happy thoughts...or at least try too.

I feel very lucky with one thing in my life and that is my dr. He was and is very sympathetic to the fibro and I didn't have to go thru a lot of drs like almost all of you. Everything else has been hell but I lucked out with my dr. He even wants the name of the site so he can look at the posts. I'm SOO scared he will retire or move away, then I know I'll be screwed. I've been seeing this dr for about 30 years so he knew my body and was with me thru a mental breakdown and a lot of other things. He DID do a lot of other tests so we could rule out everything else before the fibro diagnosis, but I appreciated that.

Remember your children come first. I have a grandson that I cannot play with like I would like to, so on bad days I get on the floor with him and he will get cars, horses, whatever he wants to play with and I sit there and play. He isn't old enough to understand that I hurt so bad so I just do the best I can. Getting back up from the floor is sometimes no fun, but it is time I get to spend with him. Talk to your doctor about the severity of the pain, there are meds. out there that you can take that are not going to zonk you out all the time. How old are your children?

You are not alone and I have gone through trying to find a med. that works for me, and there are some things that we learn as we go on that we just cannot do anymore, mine is mopping floors, I really pay for that one, so I leave it for someone else. Just hang in there and another thing is write down how bad you feel so you can remember to tell the dr. Sometimes when we go in the pain is not as severe as the day before so just make notes. You can also see on here some of themeds. we have tried and how they work, but everyone is different and what works for me may not do anything for you. Oh, and by the way I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis which there is a blood test for, and was just recently told that my pain is more from fibro, than RA.

My children are five and seven. Unfortunately they do miss out on allot because of my pain. My pain is so severe that I call my mom crying almost every day. I once started crying while trying to tell the doctor how bad I hurt and she said it was depression causing my pain. I'm just glad she finally mentioned Fibromyalgia. I felt like I was falling apart, but had no explanation as to why. I really need something for the pain. I havn't had a life in a long time. I havn't worked in over a year.

Thank you all for the responses!

Hi Cadburry,

I am so sorry that you feel so bad. I can imagine that it is hard on you children. I know it is hard on my kids and they are older. I am also sorry that you have a doctor that is mixing your pain with your depression. Is it so hard to believe that you actually have pain. Of course you are depresssed. You are in pain and no one is listening. I wish I could do more for you than lend a sympathetic ear, but that is all I have to offer except a promise to pray for you and your family.

God Bless YOU with a good nights sleep and a happy day tomorrow,

Sandi

This is the same reaction I get. If I go in for anything it is the Fibro and now she swears that everything is because I am depressed. I have tried to tell her I am not. I do know how it feels and have been the the past. I have finally made the decision to find a new dr. I am not sure it will do much good but it is worth a shot.

Sounds to me like it's worth a shot!

There's nothing like not being happy with the person (doc) that pretty much rules our lives!

Good luck...and please, keep us updated!
