Hello Noelie,

Have you heard about the new medication called Lyrica? It's a medication specifically for people with fibro.

I've never heard of anyone taking valium for fibromyalgia? Has anyone else? what's it supposed to do?

how much neurotin are you taking. My understanding is the min for an avg woman is 1200mg+ per day. Ecven then it takes several weeks (4-6) to take full effect

I take Valium 10mg tid. It keeps my nerves from totally freaking out which they do anyways sometimes. It's then that I will take a Xanax which is the quick acting one for nerves/panic attacks.

I think that some of us also suffer with GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) or at least I do and my pain Doc told me that it sometimes goes hand in hand with Fibro!

When I am having bad anxiety, I usually try to go somewhere quiet and drink a nice hot cup of tea. Try to visualize it going alllllllllllllll the way down and calming all of your nerve endings on the way. I can really calm myself down (usually) if I use my "mind over matter" skills. It can work...I practice Qi Cong and I swear it works. So if you TELL yourself to calm down...and MAKE yourself calm down...you WILL calm down! Try it!

I also learned the following from a good friend that taught me a lot of things:

"Only YOU can control your thoughts. So, change your thoughts and change your world."

Yea my doc things i may be bi-polor but the symptoms are so simular its hard to tell the differance. He has me taking Cymbalta 60mg once a day.I have found out that I'm using more of the valium than he has prescribed for me because i also use it for my mental melt downs if you know what i mean.Maybe I'll see if he can also give me Xanax so i don't use as much of the other.

Well please be careful because the Xanax is VERY, VERY, VERY addictive!! I'm not sure if you know exactly what it is or not so I'll explain what I know about it.

Valium is more what I take to KEEP FROM HAVING anxiety. I take it three times a day no matter what's happening. I can also take a second one an hour after the regular dose if needed. Valium keeps me calmer and keeps the 'shakes' down throughout the day and night.

Xanax on the other hand is a very quick acting but shorter lasting 'calming' med. I take this when I KNOW an anxiety attack or panic attack is coming (or has already hit). And, since you know of 'mental melt downs', you know what I mean when I say you can tell it's gonna hit! So, it's Xanax that calms you down quicker, yet wears off faster and Valium that keeps you calmer and kind of on an 'even keel'.

Both of these meds are VERY addictive but Xanax is more so and is soo hard to get off of. If you can control your anxiety/panic/mental break downs with Valium (and/or other meds along with it)...my suggestion would be to continue with that and don't even start another (xanax) unless you really have to! Maybe you could consider talking with your Doctor about simply increasing the dosage of your Valium instead of adding a new med! Hey...now I'm thinking! **LOL**

I know I'm going on and on and you probably already know all of this, but I just want you (and everyone else reading this) to know how important it is to NOT get yourself "hooked" on something unless you absolutely have to!! Especially something that is SOO addictive. I've heard it is more addictive than most opiates and even heroin. Since I'm there, I know it's no fun and don't want to see someone 'go there' unless it's really necessary!

Good Luck and keep in touch~

Thanks for the input I didn't realize it was so addictive.I will ask my doc about increasing the valium.I tried explaining that exact thing at our last visit, but I don't think he really understands much about fibro.I really need to find a doc who specializes in it.Are they hard to find?

I'll tell you all that I know about it...but first let me ask you a question...

Are you open to "mind over matter" and "self healing"?

Think about these for a while before you answer...it's a very important part of Qui!!
