What type of doctors have you seen thus far? And what all have they done for you? I'm sure that one of us fibromites can figure out something for you to do or try.

I know that sometimes the pain gets the best of me. I can take all the pain meds I'm allowed and still be hurting really bad.

One thing that I do, like 3 to 5 times a day sometimes- is to soak in a hot bath with some Epsom salts. Have you tried that for comfort? Warm/Hot water works great on my body.

Hang in there. It takes us all a long time, and trying lots of things before we figure out even the least little things that will help us with pain.

Okay honey- my suggestion to you is to get your family doctor to refer you to a rheumatologist. Also, maybe have a sleep study done.

I'm certianly no doctor- but with me, nothing actually got "really" diagnosed or happened with pain relief until I saw the rheumy.

I wasn't really thrilled about the sleep study. But I do have sleep apnea and ended up with a CPAP machine. Now, I can honestly say that it does help me. I still take a sleep med, my pain meds, and some muscle relaxers at night. Along with taking my usual hot soak in the tub prior to bed. But all these things are helping me with sleep.

Just don't give up. Try a rheumy, or even a pain clinic. I've not gone to one, but others have good success there. There's no reason for you to be in this much pain.

I have to agree with fibroforever... a rheumatologist is more likely to actually help you. Of course getting in to see one isn't always easy and you are going to have to be persistent. Even down right pushy, if need be. Also, you need to be aware of what's going on with yourself mentally. Chronic pain can cause some pretty significant depression that only compounds the problems and it sounds like you might be getting sucked down into that deep, dark, hole. Anti-depressants have never worked for me, and I feel that is mainly because my "depression" was based on my situation and not some chemical imbalance, but for a lot of folks, they help them to cope. There are a lot of other things you can do aside from meds, too. Coming here and talking to folks who understand what you are going through will help BIG TIME! As a person who has faught the ole "it's all in your head" theory for years, I thought I'd be the last one to suggest to someone with FM they may be depressed, but the two just go hand in hand. You can't live with pain every day of your life and NOT get at least a little depressed from time to time. I choose to treat my depression as any other SYMPTOM that is related to this fibro stuff. It isn't constant, but does pop up from time to time. Sometimes just saying something like, "Wait a minute! I am a strong woman and I've made it through far worse than this. Depression is taking hold and I need to get the upper hand NOW! Defeat is the depression talking, not me!" to myself helps me get through it. As they say, this thing too shall pass.

Sorry... accidently hit the submit button before I finished.

Sadly, there are plenty of times during this illness that nothing can fix my pain. I had to come up with a Plan B for such occasions. If I couldn't control the pain, I could at least control how well I was able to cope with it. I'm still working on that plan, but I'm making progress. Coping is KEY, angleblossom, and I'm sure there are a lot of others here that can share with you how they are coping.

Are you on any meds for pain or depression? I've heard that Cymbalta helps both. Maybe if your GP could prescribe it?
