Does anyone one have problems with anger? Sometimes I am just angry. I don't know why. I can be fine, then the simplest thing will set me off. Then a few hours later I feel so upset and guilty because I lost my temper. I dont know what to do about it. I just need to get it under control. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I tke lexapro which has been very helpful for me. It does have a weight gaining side effect which alot of people don't like, but I tried a few other things and I went back to the lexapro. I'll give a for instance of how I know it works. My husband and mother and I we traveling out of town to a doctors appointment and I dropped my meds. I found all of them but my lexapro which was only 1/2 a pill at that time. My husband crossed two lanes and pulled off the road to look for the pill. He said withouth that pill, all of our lives are miserable. Hope this helps.

Dragonfly,

I have anger problems to. The slightest thing sets me off and i am screaming and throwing things. The other day i came home and was on my way into my room when i realized the kids were gone, no note and they had left my dog out of his cage (they let him out when they come home from school then put him back in because he is still in the chewing stage) and he had gotten into a bunch of stuff and it looked like a tornado went through the house. I called their grandma but she didnt even know they were gone. I tried to call my daughter's cell phone and couldnt get a hold of them. Finally they called when i was cleaning up the mess and they were just down the road, well it made me so mad i grounded them and yelled like crazy. After i calmed down i apoligized to them, really there was no reason why i should have been mad. They are 16 and 14 and kids their age have friends, they dont drive so they walk anywhere they go. I leave the dog out sometimes so they shouldnt even have been an issue.

Usually i take a hot bath, a short walk if i dont have to much pain or i just yell until i feel better. My kids and hubby just let me rant on until i am finished and then i calm down and realize it was silly to act that way.

Hugs, Alicia

I too have the same problem. I'm on Paxil Cr which also helps. I'm not sure if it's just frustration that causes me to get that short at times or pain or what. I don't like myself when I get that way. I try and seperate myself from everyone when I get that way. go in the other room and watch TV or read. i just need my solitude to get back under control. I hope this helps

I looked up lexapro. I will not be able to take that. There is a list of conditions that you should not take the med if you have one of the. So it blocks me from taking that.

Right now I am takeing celexa. I dont know if that has anything to do with it. I know I had horable anger fits when I was taking zoloft.

I just get some angry. Today one of my dogs pooped in the house. She knew she was wrong, she went right into her cage. but I got so upset I cleand up the poop and put it in the cage with her and locked the door. Just a couple of min later I got her out of the cage. Just doning something like that is not like me.. I dont like feeling this way and I just want it to stop. it is stressing me out. I dont need to be stressed when I go for surgery in a few days.

Do you go to counseling, or see a psychiatrist on a regular basis. I go to counseling once a week and see my psychiatrist every two months. Don't get discouraged, it took me a couple to find the one that worked the best.

not anymore. We live in a ruel area. I dont drive and my hubby works a lot of hours and we never know what time he is going to get home. I have a hard time making it to the dr. 1x month. It is just hard when you live so far from everything. I do miss going to see my psychiatrist.

Wow, I am so glad this topic was brought up. I thought I was the only one who flies into these rages sometimes and then feels so badly afterwards.

I am the single mom of two rowdy boys and at the age where I am also, shall we say, "hormonal" but not quite menopausal yet, and at "that time of month," which lasts at least two weeks now, I have a lot of mood swings. Sometimes I just cannot control my temper and awful things come out of my mouth, or I throw something. I slammed a hairbrush down on the kitchen counter so hard that it broke in two! And that is WITH the Cymbalta and Paxil! Sandi, I just had to laugh at your story about going back to look for that 1/2 pill...our lives would be miserable here too if I didn't have my meds...I would be raging on a daily basis instead of just a couple of times a month. Sometimes I do think that you just have to get it out though, because if you hold it inside too long it becomes depression, and the anger is then turned on yourself. Then the fibro flares and gets worse, you don't sleep as well, and that leads to even more crankiness. I always apologize to my kids after an outburst, but since they have the same trait, I think they understand. Winter is worse because we are cooped up inside together all of the time and get on each others nerves more. Also I am more depressed and the pain from fibro worse in winter so that does not help either.

When I am feeling up to it, I find that exercise is good to release anger safely, and in the summer going for short walks in the park. Being surrounded by nature is soothing. We just had 24 inches of snow dumped on us here in Ohio and I am sick to death of cold, snow, bad roads and winter!!!!! I am ANGRY at winter!!!

When I needed to calm down, I loved to work in the garden. Now I cant at all. I have one lonly plant now. I just go to where I could not take care of my plants. I have tried hobbys. They do not work. I just dont know what to do with myself when I get like this. I just get more mad becuse I dont know how to make it go away. My hubby says he can tell by the look in my eyes if I have not taken my meds. He can also tell me when I am going to start my period. He tells me he can see the anger in my eyes.

My hubby and I hardly fight. This anger in me is starting to cause us to fight more. I am scard of what I might say or do if it gets to bad.

I have lavender all over the place. Just to try and relax me and keep me calm. I am to the point where I even put lavender flowers in my tea.
