Give a Hug
Hi, I am new to the site, and cant believe how many of us are so much alike. The pain that I deal with from day to day, I thought was crazy and then I find this site and see that I am not alone. I am wondering if anyone ever has a feeling of being squeezed around the ribs? (that is the only way I can describe it).It is not constant more like a spazm that we get in our legs or neck. With so much pain sometimes I wonder if I dont have other things wrong and blaming the fibro for it. Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

I don't think I have a squeezing around my ribs, but I deal with pretty bad rib pain. My rib pain is all through the ribcage and breastbone and very sore to the touch. I do get pressure in my ribs which makes it had to breathe at times and also feel as thought I am having a hard attack. Is this how you feel? I went to get a bone scan which is normal and just got a chest xray yesterday that I am waiting for the results for. Hope this helps a little.

Yes I have had this pain and went to the dr. since heart problems run in my family and it felt as if my chest was being squeezed. I thought it might be a heart attack or something and they said it is muscle spasms and gave me muscle relaxers to help with it. I take the muscle relaxers all the time now but occasionally I still have the feeling.

thanks. I was beginning to get scared, my doctor put me on zanaflex to take at bedtime, he said he was sure i was having spasms. Has anyone ever taken Balacet for pain? The Dr. has me on those also, they seem to take the edge off, but I feel really weird on them. I am still able to work and hope to continue for a long time, I am just wondering if there are any pain meds that work that dont make you feel like your in a twilight zone..

Have you tried Neurontin or Lyrica yet? Some people have had good results with these meds, while others have not been helped or have had to discontinue taking them due to bad side effects. I take Cymbalta for depression and pain along with Aleve and Tylenol over the counter, and Flexeril at night for spasms. Everyone's body reacts differently to the various medications, and the trick is to find the "recipe" that works best for you with the fewest side effects.

As for the Balacet, it is almost like Darvocet N 100, which I took years ago for back pain. It did zone me out, but not as bad as some of the other stronger narcotics like Percocet and Vicodin. I was able to work while on them, and as I got used to taking the Darvocet it didn't seem to put me in the twilight zone quite as much. Another milder narcotic which helps take the edge off for some people is the Ultram, or the Ultracet, which is Ultram plus acetaminophen.

I have been experiencing the same thing. Mostly it seems to happen at night when i am laying in bed. Mine doesn't hurt, but it's uncomfortable and annoying.

I have to tell you all...I have been reading about it on the internet and yesterday I found that it is a symptom of MS (Mulitple Sclerosis). They call it an MS HUG...or girdle. I was just getting on here to ask everyone about it and then I found this thread. Has everyone had MS ruled out?? The symptoms seem so simalar. Numbness and tingling, visual problems, the whole "hug" thing, pain, fatigue, etc. Mostly though the squeezing/hug thing is what mostly got me thinking about it all.

Here are a coupe of links regarding it.

Any thoughts/feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Steff

I get that same pain, especially when I'm in full bloom. It is very hard to describe. I used to tell my Doctor that it felt like I was going to blow up.
