It's been 8 weeks Tuesday since my first hearing before the Judge. I was told to take my meds before I went so I did and therefore I was very tired. I think this made the Judge mad. Also, he asked me questions I had filled out from my first application 18 months ago and so much had changed. My laywer told me he was trying to catch me in a lie. I told the truth so that part was okay. The man that was there from the social security office that tells what kind of work you can do told the judge there was nothing I could do. Why do you think it is taking so long.

HI... I am really sorry you are having such a bad time///

I could tell you my tale. It was just who could out wait the other.... either I gave up or the SS Department granted me my disablity

It started in early 2004 and I was turned down 3 times.... then the SS Depart. lost my application, so we had to refile.... yes start over...even though we had copies of our application from before.... So we did..... 2 more turn downs... then the letter from the SS that I had to go up before an administrative law judge..... I thought ALL right here we go now...... yeah right this is the government we are talking about.... 1yr 4 months later I got my date to see him... 7 months later..... I have already posted here how I was told to go before the judge and I did.... well 60 days to the day I got my letter, and a big fat check in my bank account....... I got mine on Dec. 28th of 2007. So I would have to say if you need this disablity....then you have no choice but to go through there hoops to get it...... if you quit they win.......

I now also have Medicare..... not the greatest, but beats paying $600 a month for health ins.....

All I can say is hang in there...... For your sake, please hang in there.... There are some things out there to help if you need, but it depends on the state you live in.... maybe ssi... while you are waiting on your SSD..... also there are presciption help groups out there...... google any of these...it may help....

Thank you Craig, I think you are very, very right about the goverment.

I should expect the fight and the wait then fight and wait somemore, they somehow take forever on getting money to people who need it, but God forbid we would owe them anything then they need it yesterday or penality and interest sky high.

when I lost my store that I had for 25 yrs somehow I must have missed a

small amount owed on taxes $4.44 originally is what their statment said which also came today but even though they never sent me a bill for this $4.44 ever since 2005 when I had to close up shop.......... now they want over $100 bucks this kind of goverment makes me want to pick up and move to Canada or something.

It does help to know that you hung in there and finally got your check that you deserved

Craig and Bella,

Thank you both so much for you concern. I am so glad I found this website. It keeps my hopes alive. Before I used to lay on the couch and cry because I thought I was the only one that was out there. I hate that there are others being treated this way, but it is nice to know that I am not alone. It is 54 days today since I went before the hearing judge. I could have set him straight on many health related issued, but I didn't because he could have thought I was being insubordinate and held it against me. For instance, He

asked me when the last time I took percocet was and I said midnight last night. I told him I had a third degree burn to my right foot ( I dropped a pot of boiling spaghetti water on myselt) and he said !!!!The percocet were not given to you for your foot they sere given to you for you neck.!!!! I couldn't tell him that I signed a pain contract and can only get narcotics from my pain clinic. My regular physician knew this and knew I had pain medicine to use for my foot. The hearing was a disaster. I am so afraid I didn't get it.

Praying for an answer soon,

Grateful for new friends,

SAndi

wow that judge sounds like he is a bit condescending. What you do with your meds are your business, how did he know if maybe your neck hurt and your foot? That is just not right

He was mean from the beginning. He kept asking if I was too tired for the hearing. Like I was going to say yes after I waited two years. And he kept talking about when I had my knee surgery in 1994. It had nothing to do with my case. He said "Well you put it in you disability" and I said that is only because you asked what surgeries I had had. It was never listed as part of my disability. He acted like he was trying to catch me in a lie. I can't understand why he used my first application and not my most current. I wasn't even under the care of the same doctor at the time of my hearing. SAndi

Wow, I salute you all for having the guts to hang in there and stick with "the process" when you are being treated like crap from these judges and SS people. I need to start the filing process soon myself, and I'm trying to learn from all of you. At least I now have some idea of what to expect, and while I dread all of the paperwork, the humiliation of the process and the waiting, knowledge is power. That, and knowing that others have gone through this and survived and won! Bella, please hang in there and don't give up. It seems so unfair, and I believe that some of these judges are truly on a God-like power trip because they hold people's lives in their hands. I hope and pray that you find the right attorney to help you win the next time. It's so unfair that we have to go through this stress when we are already in pain and at our wits end.

WE can't ever give up because that is what they want. The less people that stick it out the less money they pay. My biggest complaint is the people that get it so easily, and so hard for people that have worked for their whole lives. Sandi

Hi bella, go to the discussion 'turned down for disability' started by sandi, it might help. If it is any comfort the British system is just as bad. I've been reading some of you stories and I feel so ashamed that I ever complained about our NHS system; it far from perfect and it sometimes takes you ages to see a specialist for what ever reason, but at least its free. My mum lived in states for 10yrs and she remembers having to pay a small fortune at the doctors just for eye cream. I completely sympathy with everyone and want you all to hang in there, especially you Bella, it will get better.
