This Doctor was amazing! He spent 1 1/2 hrs with me & my Husband, talking & examining me. We went over everything since I first got sick in 2002.

He was disappointed that I wasn't able to have my recent mri's with me & I had told him about the insurance co denying them & that's another battle right now.

He did say I have the Fibro spots, but I with out a doubt do have something going on with my Central Nervous System.

He said I am on way to many meds, & my Husband does agree with that & was happy to hear the doctor say that.

Ideally he would like to send me to one of these Chronic Pain Treatments centers. There's one in Miami & one at John's Hopkins in Baltimore. You stay there for two weeks & it's a team approach to get you better. He said my insurance co would probably never pay for it.

I just have too many docs stirring my soup right now or too many cooks in the kitchen as far as my meds go

I had told him that I started telling my doctors this in December & we were going to start trying to wean me off some of them. He saw that first was Cymbalta & thought that I really should still be on that one.

Lyrica: I told him it was no longer working & just making me fat - he didn't seem surprised by that at all!

I told him that I go to my other Pain guy next Friday & he is going to send him a report or maybe even talk to him. I had said I was do for my Botox shots again & I was telling the doctor he could not put them in my neck this time, only the traps. Shoulder areas. This new guy said whatever you do don't get them in your neck, I'll call the doctor personally & tell him not to do it.

Re: The Meds

I take 9 different ones, and some of them are like 4 times a day. Then I have a couple others as needed. then you can also throw in the Botox & steroid shots.

One major thing he would like me to do is - you got it QUIT SMOKING I already knew that would be at the top of the list & My husband loved that also, he quit about 20 yrs ago. He did tell the doc he wouldn't be able to live with me if I quit

I really wished I could have had my Husband write this for me - it probably would have been much shorter.

I also asked the doctor about the very painful rib cage & swollen stomach. More than likely I am literally full of Shit! sorry guys He would not be able to tell without a CT scan I think he said.

He does recommend that I do water exercises at the YMCA, I said please in order to even do that what could you give me for pain that would help & I'm not allergic to?

He did not want to give me any opiods? He say I am already way to doped up on stuff.

He gave me a prescription for: LDN - Low Dose Naltrexone. I said I know all about it, allot of MS patients are on it & my neuro won't give it to me, he said it won't work that he has done trials on it.

Naltrexone is given High doses is given to Heroin addicts to keep them off of it, but in low dose works on many auto immune diseases/disorders.

I'm so excited to try it, the only place you can get it is at a compounding pharmacy. Well this place must be like an hour or so away. He said this guy is really good, use him. My husband faxed it this morning & they will mail it to me. And you know what I think it is dirt cheap. That's why the Pharm companies won't jump on it - they can't make a profit off of it!

I go back to this guy in 2 months - I'll let you know what happens when I start the new medicine.

So sorry for the Book guys.

I actually met the man that is head of the pain clinc at John Hopkins. He spoke at a nursing dinner/seminar a few months ago in Cumberland,Maryland. He talked about his program and his pain clinic. I was really impressed with him and what he did. He has a high success rate. He also spoke alot about lyrica. He talked about how the pain cycle sends pain signals from the brain to the area of pain and then sends the pain signals from the site of pain back to the brain. I talked about how it is difficult to braeak the cycle of pain once it is started. I am going to John Hopkins to their Headache clinic March 24. I have been waiting since August for an appt. Good luck with what ever you decide. Also, I have had the botox shots. All through my neck, face and shoulder and it didn't help me but my face looked nice. Not a wrinkle in site.

Wishing you the best,

Sandi

Good luck with your appointment at Hopkins. I really should have gone there a long time ago, I wish I knew about it when I was first sick.

Hopkins has the only Transverse Myelitis Center in the World, they also work with the MS doctors.

Oh, the pharmacy called me around 10:00 & I'll have the new med on monday or tuesday. I got a 60 day supply - $60.00 I gave him my credit card info, he said I can try & get the money back from insurance co, but since it's used "off label" I will probably have to fight it.

I would rather pay $1 a day than take all these other meds!

LibraJo, I am so happy for you...doing the happy dance! That is so great that the dr spent that much time w/ you & your hubby explaining things & such. That is a RARE commodity! I hope the new med helps you. Also, good luck with stopping smoking. I know it's tough, but so are YOU. You can do it...you have both the strength and the courage. I believe in You!

LibraJo, I also am very happy you are getting to try a new med that might help you a lot. <hugs>

As for the smoking... I quit 10 months ago using Chantix and never thought I would be able to do it, but within 5 days, I was smokefree and haven't picked one up since. Best of luck to you and perhaps your other meds wouldn't have adverse reactions to Chantix and you too might be as lucky as I was with it. I know everyone isn't unfortunately and it is very hard to quit, especially when you are not totally ready to give it up. I'm not pushing anyone to quit, that has to be the individuals choice.

Thanks Midnyte & welcome to the group. I'm still not ready to quit, hopefully soon. I will really try after I get all the meds situated & the withdrawal from them.

I can understand that all too well. Some of my family and my doctor pushed and pushed about my quitting until I felt I was being forced against a wall or something. Once the pressure let up, then I decided it was time to quit for myself. I am one of those who hates being told I "must" do something... asking me gets the "job" done a lot faster.

I hope your meds balance out very soon. I had issues with 2 meds that almost drove me nuts until I had a "clear" day and realized they were adding to the problem. My doctor had tried me on methadone and I really do believe I would have went crazy if I had taken it a few more days. God bless and I really do hope the doctors will find the right combo of meds for you.
