I am looking for a correlation between my cancers and Fibro. I was diagnosed 20+ years ago with thyroid cancer & this year with parotid cancer. My fibro started after the first cancer and its geting worse in stead of better. I now also have RLSand possible Sjogren's. I am looking for a good Dr. or some information regarding the possible correlation between these illnesses. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thyroid cancer is inversely related to vitamin D status.

Fibromyalgia is inversely related to vitamin D status.

Your parotid gland requires vitamin D to regulate calcium transport so low vitamin D status could well be implicated.

RLS is more related to magnesium status but this also is associated with Vitamin D status. (it's a complex balancing act between Vit d, Calcium, magnesium don't ask me to explain it)

One of the metabolites of Vitamin d has been used to treat sjogren's.

Have you had your Vitamin d3 status checked. If not why not?

Has anyone suggested you raise your Vitamin d3 status to optimal 137.5nmol/L the level known to minimise cancer incidence?

Are you aware that 400iu of Vitamin D3 raises nmol/L by 7-12nmol/L so the average UK resident with levels between 40-70nmol/L will require roughly 4000iu/daily. This is a perfectly safe amount to take.

It will take 60-90 days of 5000iu/daily D3 Cholecalciferol to raise your status to equilibrium. you can then drop down to 5 capsules one week and 6 the next to average 4000iu/d.

Calcium is best obtained from food sources.

Hello Ted,

Thank you for the information you have provided and indeed in generous proportions to be sure.

I would only ask that the slightly antogonistic "If not why not?" reply please be left out in future posts. In this forum it is imperative that everyone feels respected in every way, especially since Fibromyalgia has been so dragged through the mud thougout the years and can be a sore subject with many of those who have it.

Again, thank you for your conribution and understanding.

My comment "If Not why not" was not meant to be antagonistic to anyone with Fibromyalgia.

It is surely the fault of health professionals that low Vitamin d status is not routinely tested when considering females presenting with symptoms of chronic musculoskeletal pain?

UK readers may be interested in the tables at the end of this paper showing our UK adult Vitamin D status for months from 2002-2004. Bearing in mind that 80nmol/L is required for maximum calcium absorption and 137.5nmol/L required for lowest cancer incidence, it is alarming that the average Winter level is around 40nmol/L and at it's peak at the end of Summer we are still, as a population, all below the level needed to optimise our calcium status.

Vitamin D deficiency is a major contributor to chronic low back pain in areas where vitamin D deficiency is endemic.
