Okay so lately i have been getting these very strange body spasms, its hard to explain but its half way between a shiver and spasm. Now i don't know what causes it but its frustrating, you have these uncontrollable shakes and then you try to relax and you can feel the built up energy and it happens again and there is nothing you can do to stop it. Is this normal for fibro? i don't think anything else is causing it because it never happens in a pattern, so i just kinda decided to call it fibro twitch and deal with it. Just wandering if anyone has heard of a symptom like this. Thx - Lizard ^.^

I've been getting the same thing for years, even before the FM dx. I wouldn't consider myself "normal" though. I tighten up all over. I always feel cold and sweaty too, even though the house is 70.

I totally hear you!

I know what you mean and it's NO fun! I do think it's part of Fibro! I also have anxiety and panic attacks and what you describe sounds like it's maybe a mild anxiety attack?!

I don't know...but that's what it sounds like to me. I have everything from what you described to laying down and shaking soo hard, I literally shake up off of the bed! And, I have to concentrate HARD to even keep breathing. Thanks to my husband, he's the one that reminds me to breath as he holds me and talks to me and rubs his fingers through my hair as he tries to calm me down!

And, psk...the cold and sweaty thing...OMG...it drives me CRAZEE!!!!

I am completely here with you. I get those. It is like nervous energy or something hard to explain. My hands tremble and I feel all jittery inside. I never knew what it was but you have explained it exactly how I feel. Oh my.....

Do these jerky spasms happen in your legs?

I have that happen all the time, since high school. I asked every doctor I ever saw what was wrong. These "things" would happen during the day but mostly at night. I lost many a nights sleep because of them.

Finally, I saw an article about restless leg syndrome. Some of the examples in the article did not fit me. But the urge/need to kick/jerk/move my legs was unmistakable. LOL...I gave the article to my neurologist and he looked at me like I was nuts. I think he was. However. he did prescribe neurontin for it. Over the years my dose has increased but I don't dare go a night without it. I sometimes take it during the day if I feel the feeling starting in my legs.

I have had it since about 1974, my mom had it and never got relief, and my brother also has it.

I hope this bit of a ramble helped some.

Trudy

Reading all the above posts I can relate to them all. It sounds like you are having panic attacks. The first time I had one I didn't know what it was. I was shaking uncontrollably and the more I worried what was happening the worse it got. I finally called my daughter who lived very near me and asked her to come over. This was about 2AM and I didn't want to wake my husband (he had to get up for work at 4). When she came over and saw the state I was in she immediately took me to the ER. After sitting there for what seemed like hours the doctor finally told me I was having a panic attack. He prescribed Xanax for me to take as an on needed basis. It took me a while to know when an attack was coming on. Once I realized the symptoms I would put a pill against my gum and cheeck - the quickest way for the med to work - and within 10 - 15 minutes the panic would go away. Before I recognized the symptoms I remember one time calling my daughter...again, God love her, she is so good with me....and she wasn't home. I called my one son 'cause I figured maybe she was there but she wasn't. He asked what was wrong - he could tell by my voice that something just wasn't right - I told him I was in an attack and he asked if I took my pill and told him yes but I waited too long before taking it. Anyway he talked to me until the med took affect (about 45 minutes). I can honestly say that my kids are my Angels on Earth.

As to the leg discomfort. I suffered with that starting at about the age of 34 (I am now 61). At that time there wasn't a name for it. I remember my husband telling me quite often in the mornings how sore his shins would be. Well it was me kicking so hard during my sleep that I was kicking him in his shins. I kicked him so hard one night that it woke him up. The mystery of the sore shins was finally solved!! About a year later there was a small article in the newspaper about RLS. I thought OMG that is what I have. I think that was also about the time I started with FMS although my symptoms were miminal.

Sorry for such a lenghty post.

Hang in there Liz and try to find a good friend to whom you can talk and relate your pains with her/him. Someone out there will understand and as always, remember we are here for you. I found this is a terrific place to be. Someone is always online day or night to whom you can vent or talk to.

Maggie

It took my husband many years to understand that all the pain I had was real and not in my head. Now he is my strongest supporter.

Yes Largarto,I have these too and I think it is definitely related to the fibro. I have it mostly in my legs and sometimes putting a warm blanket on them helps. My husband says he is used to being kicked at night and it just lets him know that I am still there.
May the sun bring you new energies by day,
May the moon softly restore you by night ,
May the rain wash away any worries you may have,
And the breeze blow new strength into your being,
And then, all the days of your life,
May you walk gently through the world, and know it’s beauty and yours.

Thx for all the advice. Its can be really frustrating, but i don't know if its what i would call a panic attach. I mean i am just watching tv and it hits. I try to get relaxed but it keeps happening, but at those times my mind seems relaxed, i am not worrying about anything and i am not stressed, its just really random. O_o.
