Hello,

I recently moved to Grand Bay, Alabama and I am looking for a good Doctor that treats Fibromyalgia.

Any help would be appreciated. I have been suffering with Fibromyalgia for 15 years now and it has been hard finding a good doctor close to me this time.

Slyn, welcome to the Wonderful World of Mighty Fibromites! I'm glad you've joined us.

Right off the top of my head, I can't think of any members from your area.

The National Fibromyalgia Association, though, does have a doctor finder section on their website.

What I did was get a recommendation from a friend who has arthritis. Then I called to make sure the dr. believed in and treated fibro before I even made an appointment. It did work out extremely well for me.

Please hang out with us so we can get to know you. I firmly believe that just being here lowers my pain level. There's all kinds of great advice, terrific people, AND we have a tremendous amount of fun as well!

Hugs, Tina

Finding a doctor who will treat us with respect and care seems to be our biggest hurdle these days.

I have had this for 11 yrs now and when I was first diagnosed the doctor was kind. But he left his practice and I have been searching for a good doctor ever since. It is unbelievable to me how rudely doctors treat FM patients these days.

I checked all the lists and have gone to all the docs in my area. It was a real flop. Doctors who say they specialize and then you get there and they are no different from any other doc. The pain clinic docs here say they don't treat FM patients.

It is so frustrating. I wish you luck in your search. I believe the ProHealth FM board has a good doc list. But it takes forever to sort through.

Hi Slyn and welcome to the group. I hope you will stick around with us so we can get to know you better. You will love it here, believe me. I'm sorry you can't seem to find a good doctor. I know that makes all the difference in your treatment. Have you tried out of your area? I know it would be a pain to drive(literally) but it would be worth it if you could find the right doc. Good luck and let us know.

Where is Grand Bay? Close to Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Huntsville, Mobile? I have a dr. in Birmingham. Let me know if that's close to ya. I drive from Tuscaloosa to Birmingham because the dr here is awful. I had a bad experience with him and will not go back. There's another lady on here from Huntsville.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I am in a mess right now. I am having a bad flare up and appreciate all of the posts.

I am very close to Mobile; about 18 miles. Where you live would probably be to far for me to drive. Do you know of any doctors in Mobile?

Thanks Tina! I have my hands full; I am in the process of trying to start a support group in this area.

So far I have a lot of support; I just need to find Doctors in the area that firmly believe in Fibromyalgia and are willing to work with me to raise awareness in this area.

I feel welcome already and it makes me feel really good to know there is support and people like me. I sometimes feel alone and unwanted because of my pain.

Thanks again.
