I just stumbled across some articles online about the nutritional supplement D-ribose, which is used to make ATP in our cells. It can be purchased without a prescription and it's being promoted by Dr. Weil, the herbal and alternative medicine expert, to give increased energy and some pain relief to fibro and CFS patients. I think I may give it a try because my fatigue has been so bad this winter that I can barely function during the day. This is not a stimulant and it is not habit-forming. Fairly expensive, but then all of those special supplements are expensive. It would be worth it if it works. Here is the article if anyone is interested.

also, good news ( I think) I had a message on my answering machine yesterday from myfibrostudy.com and they want me to call them back. I applied a month ago and hadn't heard anything and I had forgotten about it. I am going to call them back today.

Maybe I'll get to be a research guinea pig if I meet their qualifications!

I recently tried pure D-Ribose from the health food store (with the trademark of the one that was recommended from an article/study that I read but not the exact same brand-name but still pricey) and I saw marked improvement after 24-hours, with lessening of my pain and an increase in energy - yes, really that quickly! However, unfortunately, it also caused me terrible GI distress. It felt like I had crushed glass in my stomach. I belched all the time and it was uncontrollable. It caused terrible heartburn. I tried taking it several different ways also - even under my tongue (it is a sorta sweet tasting powder), placed it in gelatin capsules and took it with food and/or milk, but nothing helped. I had to stop it completely after a week. I was SO disappointed as I really think it could have helped me tremendously. I hope that anyone that tries this will not have the side effects I did (I have a hx of GERD and IBS so I am sure that played a part in this.)

Please keep us posted if you try it. I personally think it is well worth a try!

Hey gang I take Ribose 3 x a day - and it's amazing how much easier my day is because of it - as I understand it... this is something that is in everyone's muscles that their body creates to get them thru the day... we run out super early so our energy is gone - but i've noticed when taking this Ribose 3 x a day it makes a HUGE difference.... you can buy it at a local health food store... but i'm finding online is far cheaper (like 1/2 price) however, I live in a small town with 1 health food place... so maybe ya'll can find better prices B/C... it seems another common thread is we are ALLLL broke

Can anyone tell me where you can get this and how much it typically costs? I read an article on this and it seems to definitely help with energy level and muscle pain. I will try anything!!

I got mine at our local health food store for around $40, in powder form (but it comes in capsules as well but you have to take I believe 6 at a time). I would highly recommend you get the pure/100% type with no fillers and/or additives.

I feel the same way you do - it is certainly worth a try (as long as your doctor's approve it). I sure wish I could have continued it as I really feel it would have been worth every penny!

This is the article I first read: http://www.immunesupport.com/library/showarticle.cfm/id/ 6225

I also read about this from Dr. Teitelbaum - you can click on a link within this link:

Keep us updated, k?

Best wishes,

For those of you who do take it, how much do you take? I have a bottle and it says to take 1 1/2 TSP. a day. When I take that amount, it really doesn't do anything for me. So I'm curious to know what amount it is that you find helpful.

Thanks!

Steff

I took 2 tsp. twice a day but have read where others take this amount up to 3 times a day.

HTH.

I take 1 tsp 3 x a day - it can take up to several weeks to do you any good - it has to build up as your body is probably extremely low!

Also - I found a site online that is 1/4 of the price that I paid here in town!! Amazing how much cheaper it can be!!!
