Yep, I feel your pain. My neck and shoulders are always stiff. I like to put heat packs on the back of my neck at night to help relax the muscles a little. I had a doctor tell me that after my muscles spasm for so long the develop scar tissue and get pretty tight. Nice to meet you by the way. I don't think I've seen you around before. Smile

I am new to this site. Nice to meet you as well. I recently lost one of my best friends to cancer at 33 years old and my symptoms have flared up big time. I have been pretty bad for 2 weeks now. The mind-body connection is huge with this disorder.

I will get a massage every now and then but the relief is only temporary.

I have corn bags which I use but that once again is only temporary. We thought about getting a hot tub but I certainly don't need another thing to take care of.

I just don't like the feeling of forcing myself to smile because the muscles around my head and face are soooo tight. I don't want people to think I am miserable. I am actually quite the opposite without my fibro.

Oh well.....

Hi Fibromite, I too am pretty new here. I must admit that any pain relief with fibro is temporary. I wonder if your massage therapist could show your husband how to rub your neck to give you some relief in the evenings before you go to bed. That would at least relax you a little bit. I would put heat of after that and maybe the muscles will calm down a bit???

I agree about the mind-body connection. My aunt/godmother passed away last year at the same time I was going through a divorce. There was about a 4 week span of time I didn't leave my apartment.

Take deep breaths and know that this too will pass, kinda like a kidney stone Sick

Hi fibromite welcome to our fibro family. My chiropractor kept telling me that my muscles in my shoulders and neck were super tense. He blamed it on how I sat at work. My hubby just went thru a bout of having tense muscles in his neck and shoulder. He couldn't even move his head. Our friend did something to him and popped is back and no more pain or stiffness.

Wow! Double wammy for you last year. It isn't easy losing someone for sure but it does make it harder when you have to deal with this on top of things. My friend was a great nurse who was always sooo concerned about me as I was with her. It's just really tough. Before she passed I was hopeful for her and really doing quite well with the positive thinking. I know this will pass in time but I just have to get through the grieving. Can I ask you all your fibro. symptoms. If you want to send me a private message you could. It is truly hard for people to understand. I did find that green tea did decrease my symptoms for a little while anyway -a little FYI. Decaf, of course! Thanks!

Janilee,

What helps you relieve it? Heating pads as well? Any meds? I don't like to take meds if I don't have too.

I just used moist heating pads and the chiro did deep muscle massages.

My massage therapist is afraid to do deep tissue massage but I don't think what she is doing is helping me much. Perhaps I should switch. I don't go to the chiropractor anymore because the first one I went to just wanted to crack my neck and the second one wanted to crack my neck and used a Homedics massager on me (same one I have at home) and then charged me my copay. It didn't help me.

I'm an Advocate

Hello fibromite ~~~ welcome and nice to meet you ~~~ Smile

Someone else recently asked nearly this same question or at least one re: neck pain.

I have always wondered if massaging or a chiro could help the situation but was always more afraid it would do more harm than good so never followed thru on it.

Last year, when I complained to my Rhuemy about the pain and knots, he gave me a shot of , I believe, Lidocaine (?) right into the muscle knots on either side of the base of my neck and it was great relief.

Of course, I still haven t gotten completely rid of the stress so it s back but ~~~ I m learning it may just be a fact of life and seriously have to learn to live with it. Sad
