I was diagnosed recently with fibromyalgia. My doctor has done many tests, and I've had several injections to treat nerve and ligament damage. He's recently mentioned something called the "Marshall Protocol". Has anyone ever heard of this or had experience with it? It has to do with a theory that FM is caused by bacteria in tissues that needs to be killed with long-term (3-6 months) of antibiotics, along with high-blood pressure medicine. I've already spent over $1000 in less than a month with this doctor (and yes, I have good insurance), and I'm not sure what to do. Any ideas?

That sounds far fetched to me. Im not a dr either. Long term antibiotics can cause resistance to that antibiotic when you need it. It can also cause yeast. Not sure what else. Be careful please.

I would do some reasearch on this therepy. We are just so deperate to grab on to a cure, and there are so many out there trying to "help" us,and if they make alot of money in the process then hey no harm no foul right? WRONG!! If it sounds to good to be true,it probably is. So please be very caareful and informative. Take charge of your healthcare and ask alot of questions and take notes. In the long run, the only one who really cares about you is YOU!!!

Well if thats the case I should be cured because I was on heavy antibiotics and antifungals for 6 to 7 months when I had the mold inhaled virus. All it did was make my fibro worse then after that I had to be on another kind of antibiotic to put something good in my stomach that the bad took away didnt understand that one and didnt take all of it because it made me sick.

But yeah i agree with singingangel on this one. Antibiotics over long period is bad bad bad And what is the high blood pressure medicine suppose to do with antibiotics unless you have high blood pressure??? Maybe I read that wrong but Im too tired to scroll all the way back up haha

Does your Dr. suspect Lymes disease? Possibly that is why he/she is using the antibotics?

I'm not sure what the high blood pressure medicine is for. He wouldn't even discuss my blood results with me at my last appointment; he just told me to read about the Marshall Protocol on his website and we'd talk about it next time. The information is SO very confusing. Here's the link if anyone's interested:

He hasn't mentioned Lyme disease so far. I hope he doesn't...this fibro is bad enough as it is.

I agree with the rest of the group. Unless you've been dx with lymes or there is proof you have and infection- longterm use of antibiotics is not a good thing. In fact I have avoided antibiotics like the plague because I used to get so many sinus infections that I think they messed up my gut. I now take probiotics and anti-fungals to help with my stomach problems.

Hey - if a doctor can't explain something to you in the office I'd be leary of the dr. I have stayed clear of the "know it all doctors". I did that in the past and I think it made things worse!!!!!
