"My mother is dealing with chronic pain and has fibromyalgia" (worrieddaughter09)

MDJunction to me

"I have been struggling with Fibromyalgia, Bipolar, Anxiety, Post traumatic Syndrome for quite some time and pretty much going it alone. I stumbled across MDJunction by accident. I stayed in the shadows and just watched for four days and then I joined, feeling relieved and excited to have found a safe place with alot of folks that I could relate to . It's proove to be medically and emotionally
helpful to me and now I can't go a day without coming in at least 4 or five times a day! I Love my family here.

Any key side effects I should be made aware of. I was trying to read through some of the previous posts on here about it, and saw nausea as a common response, but any other side effects to mention?

Thanks,

Laura

I also experience dry mouth, drowsiness & dizziness. Since everyone is different, for me the nausea and dry mouth went away after a little while. Best of luck to you!

You will have nausea for 3 days. You should take it in morning because it will keep you up at night. It makes my daughter get the shakes if she doesnt take it exactly at the right time. She also got the dry mouth. Hopes you have good luck with it.
I have dystonia, neuropathy, gerd, arthritis, and fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel and other ailments. I enjoy embroidery, music, and reading my Bible and Christian books. I love to bake. I try to be very supportive and positive.

Please make sure a loved one very close to you is aware that this drug can cause severe depression. If it happens - you might not be able to pick up on it yourself - because you are living it - you'll need someone on the outside to watch you.

I'm one of the happiest people on earth - and cymbalta put me in an extreme depression spiral. It has done allot of good for others, but PLEASE be aware of that side effect and have someone watch for it.

Things turn out best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out.

You make a great point Aquarian! I started saving the patient info sheets from the pharmacy for my hubby, just in case. That way if there is some kind of emergency, he knows exactly where to go for the bottles & the information. Just a thought for everyone else out there...make sure someone knows where to access the meds, the info on them & your dr #'s. We can never be too safe! Many blessings to you~

I'm not sure about others, but Cymbalta did little to help with my depression (suffer with major depressive d/o).It also did nothing for my pain. I remember at the time I was taking it I had a very hard time concentrating and I had a worsening of depression symptoms. It also can cause sleep disturbance. I had a hard time getting to sleep while on it. I agree with everyone else who has said to make sure you let someone close to you know you're taking it. That's a good idea with any medication you take long term. I hope it works for you. I hear it works well for many.

Cymbalta made me nauseated for a week, but after that I felt normal and happy for the first time in my life! I've tried almost every other anti-depressant and found this one to be the best. Some other side effects that are not so great are sexual disfunction (low libido and anorgasmia). I didn't think Cymbalta helped my pain at all, but now that I'm happy I don't care! However, everyone is different and responds differently to drugs.

I had the same reaction to cymbalta as Aquarian. I didn't realize the depression was setting in. I was only prescribed cymbalta for fibro pain. I remember the doctor telling me I was depressed, but I really was only upset and scared about what was happening to me. Anyway, things were okay for a few months and I had less morning stiffness, but things changed big time for me within a couple of months. I know it works for some, though. Like its been said, we're all a little different. That's why sites like this are great. You just take the information as its presented. That it is that person's experience and then compare it to your own.

Cymbalta works great for me as an anti-depressant with few serious side effects, but I found that I do better on the 30mg than the 60mg. At that dose I don't have any sexual side effects. It has never caused me any nausea, but when I took it at night it seemed to keep me awake at bedtime. I take it in the morning so that it won't affect my sleep during the night. It causes dry mouth, but then so do some of the other meds I take, specifically Flexeril. I believe it helps a bit with the pain also, but it's hard to say because my pain levels fluctuate so much from day to day. The main thing to remember is not to suddenly quit this medication cold turkey on your own if you have unacceptable side effects or it isn't working and you want to go off of it. Always tell your doctor first and he/she can help wean you off of it safely. Quitting cold turkey can cause

some people bad withdrawal symptoms.
