My back has been hurting on and off for a few weeks now. Today, I had spasms in my neck and in the top part of my back which made my arm hurt and I could hardly lift it. My husband tried to massage it and found plenty of knots that he tried to rub out. They hurt when he rubbed them but it was a good hurt, I don't know if you can understand that. Anyway, now that he has done that, those spots are very sore, he did not do it very hard but I could tell when he hit the exact spot. Does anyone else have pain like that in those areas after they are massaged? I am thinking maybe we did more harm than good but now I don't know what to do it seems like I need to do something to get the hurt out..

Good morning, bc, Smile

I get those exact ""knots and pains"" you mention ~~~ I had a surprise pain in my lower back a couple of nights ago just before bedtime. It was nearly gone the following morning BUT ~~~ now (for the second day) I have a super painful knot in my right buttocks.

I also have misery in the neck/shoulder area constantly. Sometimes I can hardly turn my head to the left.

I don t think massaging the affected areas is bad or harmful as long as it isn t done roughly .

I hope you have a better day today than yesterday ~~~

My dr. says I have rocks, not knots. LOL I hate the ones in the butt cheeks! I have found very little that relieves the sore, but I will tell you that BenGay is my new friend. Tiger Balm is the best, if you can afford it, but BenGay works well. Don't put it on the chest though, unless you're Marine tough! I get the ones in my chest too. I was rubbing one the other day and Honey thought I was having a heart attack. He was happy to help rub though as soon as I told him what was wrong! Smile

"The Mystery of Pain" -Emily Dickinson-
Pain has an element of blank;
It cannot recollect
When it began, or if there were
A day when it was not.

It has no future but itself,
Its infinite realms contain
Its past, enlightened to perceive
New periods of pain.

No sweetie, I don't think he did any harm. I know the "good pain" you're talking about. Even when my chiro adjusts me, it feels good and I know the outcome will be nice but every where he lays his hands on me, I hurt for 2-3 days after in exactly the areas he touched.

I'm sorry your back has bothered you for so long and I hope you can find some relief. Have you been using your heating pad.

OH! Something I just remembered. Rubbing with the butt of his hand instead of using fingers. FINGERS KILL ME!!!!!!! Flat hand only and THAT makes a big difference.

Hey BC i have those same knots from my neck down to my butt cheeks and it hurts like heck for a few days after if somebody rubs them out. The only thing I can suggest is that when hubby rubs your back he uses some kind of massage oil or baby oil and rub the knots very gently but for a little bit longer then you go and soak in a warm bathw/espom salt. that helps my after massage pain. Hope this helps you. Hugs Lisa
