I was just diagnosed a week ago with fibro! I have so much to learn. Just a quick question to ask anyone on here if they have ever had trouble with palpitations at night time. My heart feels like it is coming out of my chest and I break out in a sweat. I have seen a cardiologist and had a stress test and was told everything was fine. Maybe someone on here could tell me if they have ever had a similar problem. After a year and a half of not having a diagnosis, I am somewhat relieved that there may be help out there..

Welcome sugar, glad you found us! Sounds like you have many questions, so ask away...we are here for you no matter if you need to vent, ask ?'s, be silly or whatever. Everyone here is very supportive and I find there is always someone who can relate to what you are going thru. As for the palpitations, I had been taking Amitriptyline (sp?) for a while and started having palptiations & racing heart when I tried to increase the dosage. Needless to say, I don't take it anymore. I had my heart checked out & now take Atenolol to keep my heart rate & palpitations down. I don't have high blood pressure, but my dr says I will have to take the atenolol for the rest of my life. The palpitations don't really bother me, it's just that sometimes I feel them more than others.

If you had your heart checked out, that is what is most important. Make sure you listen to your body and talk to your dr about any & all symptoms you experience. Maybe keep a list so when you see your dr you don't forget anything. Fibro fog likes to set in especially when we have appts. LOL

Again, welcome to the family! Glad you are here!

welcome sugar.

I have palpatations when i lay down at night, for me it is a matter of consciously slowing down my breathing and my heart will follow. when i had it checked out it was said that i was a little stressed and needed meds to take care of it. the meds work well and so does the relaxation breathing at the same time. like coolmama said listen to your body and talk to your doc. sometimes major ailments can get lost in the fibro.

welcome to the group

Thanks for the reply. I actually sleep for a couple of hours before I get this pounding in my chest, like my heart is going to jump out of it and then I break out in a sweat, then it's over!! I have had a stess test, which was fine, but because this is a new symptom I am going to discuss with my doc. I definitly have stress in my life, 2 daughters getting married this year, and a plan to move out of state!!! Honestly I have only had this sensation twice now, but they have both occurred within the past few days..

I have had this happen many times its a very scary feeling!! My dr did all the tests too came back with nothing. He did put me on klonopin (a long acting benzo) in a low dose for the heart pounding and the shakes in my hands. It worked well for these and for helping me get to sleep at night. I slowly had to increase the mg over the years but it was helpful. Recently I seen a dr in texas that said that the reason that I had the shakes and anxiety attacks was because of to much addrenalin. He is now treating me with drops that control this but its homopathic type epi. He also suggested a slow walk in the evening to use up some of the addrenilin which is also working very well. Try to keep your stress at a minimum if you can and reduce caffenine after 6 pm. Hope this helps I know what its like to feel the way you feel and its very scary!!

I have also heard that the caffiene and aspartame don't fare well with the whole fibro deal. The caffiene isn't good for any of us and the aspartame has it's own side effects. I know it's hard to give up the caffiene, but I did it this past summer and have felt better since. (Especially now that I drink either water or milk exclusively.) I used to love my Diet Pepsi but find now that if I drink even one can of it I feel the effects the next day. Maybe a coincidence, but I don't think so. Just throwing my 2 cents in. LOL

You can get palpatations from many things. I have mitral valve so if a med can cause that I usually get it. But too much stress or pain can cause it too.
I have dystonia, neuropathy, gerd, arthritis, and fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel and other ailments. I enjoy embroidery, music, and reading my Bible and Christian books. I love to bake. I try to be very supportive and positive.

Thanks for the reply. I too have mitral valve. I also know I have been very anxious about this whole fibro thing. I am having a hard time believing it, because I have not felt well for so long!

I have this happen, the anxiety could be causing it. it sounds kinda like an anxity or panic attack. My husband has panic/anxity attacks and from what he says they are horrible. I have high blood pressure so I don't know if that has something to do with mine or if it's just racing thoughts causing it or anxity, lord knows we all have enough of that.

Fibro won't kill you, even though it may feel like it sometimes.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel -- but it's a train about to run over you.

Ohhhhhhhh Myyyyyyyyyyyy Goshhhhhhhhhhh....

Panic attacks and anxiety is soo HORRID!!!

I would say I have an anxiety attack at least once a week (and more sometimes if I'm really stressed out)

And, a Panic Attack probably once a month...sometimes more, sometimes less.

Either way...they are horrible and make you feel soo out of control with yourself. Not to mention if feels like your heart is going to beat right out of your chest. I can feel my heart beating throughout my ENTIRE body when I have a Panic Attack!

It's such a horrible feeling!!

I do take meds for these, but they only hold me over for soo long...eventually the attacks hit anyways!

I know caffeine is a 'no-no'.

Good luck!!
