I know that some of you have talked about different types of patches for pain. Can you tell me more about them? Like:

~ What are the brand, type, dosage?

~ Do you get them from a pain management specialist? Or a general physician? Or a rheumy?

~ Are they expensive?

We recently got a sample in the mail for a patch called: WHITEE Patch for joint and back pain. It states that it's an advanced herbal technology targeting the root causes of pain.

Now I'm curious about these patches. So whatever you can tell me about them- I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Amy

Hi Fibroforever,

I know I've mentioned a fentantyl durigesic patch. It's a narcotic that usually a pain specialist prescribes, maybe even a rhuemy. I've found it works very well for the overall body aches ver well!! It comes in different strentghs which you'd have to work out with your doc.

I've never heard of what you've got thru the mail. Did you try it? Frankly, I don't think it's gonna work, but I'm just speaking from many herbal stuff I've tried, but for you...well, you never know, right?

Take care,

Spruce

HI..I was on the Fentanyl patches...started out on the 25mcg's and then to the 50's then the 75's and then the 100's plus the suckers....... 600mcg's each....... As for me I would not recommend them to anyone.... for me it was 10 months of hell...... it made that pain worse for me, and I was just sicker all the time....As far as monies ....I had insurance and then the VA picked up the meds....so I have no idea of cost.....

That is just my 2 cents worth on the Fentanyl Patches....sorry

I've not tried this patch. I'm thinking about just letting my husband try it. And actually on his elbow. Cause, I doubt it's gonna even come close to knocking out the pain I have.

To me it appears to be like one of those patches that you can by in the over-the-counter area. You know, like a .... uhm..... oh my! The fibrofog is bad! Uhm... well, like one of those heat like patches. You probably know what I'm talking about. The ones you can use on your shoulder, back, neck, etc. Sorry, I can't think to spit out what I'm talking about.

Thanks for letting me know about your patch. It's one you wear for like a month or so, right? And are they expensive? I'm guessing insurance probably covers it, just like a regular med...?

Hey Fibro,

You change the patch (every doc will tell you what you should do) but about 48hrs to 72 hrs. It is expensive and I think most insurances sould cover it.

You have to remember, that it is addictive as far as if you were to just take youself off of it. If you've been on it for awhile and want to get off they wean you off. I've done it twice and had no problems, just all the body pain comes back. I usually have something for break through pain, for me darvocetts usually.

Some people have had bad expereinces, for me, it was the greatest thing since white bread. I mean I didn't feel high, just less pain and it was wonderful after suffering so long!

It could be something to talk to your doc about!

Hi Fibroforever,

The pain mgmt doctor prescribed me those Lidoderm Patches, they have lidocaine in them. They don't help me, but if my skin is itching firey hot, I'll put one on.

The Fentynal patch I heard works pretty good for many people, you change it every 72 hours I think. I tried the lowest dosage & couldn't handle it, I was sick as a dog for three days. I took it off after 22 hrs.

maybe your doctor can try you on the Lidoderm patch & see if it helps.

I also tried the lidoderm patches. They are verey expensive for something that only helps for an hour and that's if you have the right kind of pain. I can't tell if they will help my pain on any certain day or won't, but anything is better than nothing, esp. if you can't take any pain meds because you have to drive later. Sometimes they help my knees.

The lidoderm patches helped me after I was upped on the neurontin and given strong nsaids. Then it helped a little. Cant get Fentyl patches. Va dont give them if yu have fibro.
I have dystonia, neuropathy, gerd, arthritis, and fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel and other ailments. I enjoy embroidery, music, and reading my Bible and Christian books. I love to bake. I try to be very supportive and positive.

i use the lidoderm patches only for arthritis or muscle strains that i know i caused because other wise they are useless for my fibro pain. all of the drugs we are on even if they don't say so can be addicting. all it takes for an addiction to flare up is your mind like what ever it is you are taking. I have to be carefull because i am a recovering alcoholic and drug addict. this doesn't mean i have to suffer it just means that i have to obay the rules.

Hi Terihayes,

I agree that although you have a addiction problem doesn't mean that you can live with chronic pain. Some choose not to, but if you work with your doctor and really be strong within yourself and determined and open to those who understand these things, you'll be ok!!
