I just told both of my Docs at my last apt. that my husband and I wanted to start having kids!!! The rhumy said that it would be fine it is just SOME (not all) of the meds I cannot take. The nuro said that now is not a good time due to the pain not being stabilized yet. She also said that for the baby to be healthy I would have to be off of all my meds.Sad I went to my gp and she said she said that you can take things like hydrocodone for pain and over the counter stuff.

I have not been taking any meds except occasionally the hydrocodone for pain.

Do any of you have any advice on pregnancy and fibro pain? What meds did your doc let you take while being pregnant that would be safe for the baby?

I greatly appreciate any advice.

Thanks

Amber

When I was pregnant I didn't take anything for pain but I wasn't in a lot of pain during that time of my life. A lot of meds are safe, especially after the first trimester. You can read up on them yourself on websites that are specific for the meds themselves or on places like webmd and other sites like that. I did take antidepressants. Many of them are safe during pregnancy and breast feeding.

Amber! How confusing to get three different opinions from your doctors! I think Rhonda is right. You're going to have to research it yourself, then weight what you find against what all the doctors said.

I'd say get a second opinion, but you already have three!

Keep us posted on what you find.

Okay speaking from a male point of view. It hurts me just to get up and go potty. If I were you I would be terribly careful. And of course if you do it, I hope it is all good pain free and a beautiful healthy baby. Good Luck. I hope you find a doctor who can give you a some good sound advice.

Don't listen to the neuro, rheumy, or gp. Consult an OB/GYN about what meds are OK during pregnancy.
I am not a doctor. Please consult with your doctor before following any advice given by myself or anyone else on this or any other forum.

Brilliant, Mommy! I'm glad at least one of us is thinking clearly today! That is, of course, exactly what Amber should do Smile

Amber~If I had it to do all over again I wouldn't take anything during my prenancy. I took hydrocodone and penicillin when I was pregnant with my daughter and now she is allergic to both. And I mean anaphylactic shock allergic. Dr.s said it was safe, so I did it. Then with my son I took cephalexin and now he is allergic to it. Just seemed to be too much of a coikydink? I didn't have fibro then, just CFS so I have no idea what you would be facing. Then again, there are millions of people that take stuff while pregnant and nothing happens to the baby. I know it's hard but whatever you and your husband decide, that's the right choice for "you". Smile HUGS!

Amber, I did not know that I had fibro when I was preg with my kids but with my last 2, I had to be watched very carefully because my back had gotten so bad. I had to quit working in my 3rd trimester. I took 800 mg of motrin a day until my 3rd tri. Until then it was ok but after that, they were scared it would make my blood too thin and I would bleed too much and I guess the baby too. I did take steriods one time during my pregnancy, because my back went out and there was a lot of swelling I cannot remember when but it was early on and it was ok. No matter what the md gave me, I did not take it until I talked to my OB. The end of the pregnancy, I just had to rest a lot there was not a lot they could do although one time he did give me a shot of morphine because it got real bad. Your md will be very careful, there are some things you can do but I just chose to do only things that I HAD to have. Good luck.
