I could not believe it this afternoon when I opened the mailbox and there was a letter from SS. I shuddered to open it- good news or bad? It was my hearing date set for February 20th!!! Now I am getting so nervous wondering how it will go and reading all those things that they judge is going to ask you.

Can anyone tell me how their hearing with the judge went and how bad it was?

I am excited, happy, nervous.....

I first filed in April 2006!

HI.... I posted what I was told to do the other day....

Dress like you always do...do nothing to improve your appearance

If you normally wear sweats, wear sweats......

If you count on your attorney...to make sure all things are covered......don't ..... you do it...

If they ask you why you can not work give them every reason you can think of ...

If you have a problem sitting, then stand up from time to time, lean on something,.....stoop down on something....what ever...If you are hurting say so.....and then say so again......

Tell them everywhere it hurts....... how it really is....do not lie.....but give them the full picture.....

Tell them how you sleep, what a normal and your worst nights are like...and the same with your days......... Tell them every where it hurts...and why you can not do what you use to do.........

tell them if you can not wear normal shoes like you use too and why. The same with any other cloths or thing around your house that you had to change so that you can live.........

hope it helps ...

Craig

I'm creating a short cut to this page just for this purpose, this is VALUABLE information, as soon as I'm done going through all the medical hoops, I'm going to try as well, my RHEUMATOLOGIST? said if I could work again he'd give up his practice and move some where tropical, soooo encouraging LOL I haven't worked in 10 years and had to close my bead shop due to medical issues, in 2004, and I just got Dxed in October 2007. This has not been a fun road, thanks again for the info!

Coffeebean,

That is great! My time line went just like yours & I had my hearing on Feb 20th of 2007 and she approved me on the 22nd.

A couple of things I just remembered, I made the mistake of saying something when I wasn't spoken to in error, I apologized. Don't speak unless you are asked a question.

I had brought up about having a hard time reading & the judge asked me if I could hold a newspaper to read?

That's something I would have never thought of & no I can't. It takes me all day, I can't hold it up & the words blur together. I just read Monday's last night sitting at the dining table. Today's Thursday right - I have some catching up to do...

Best of Luck to you

oh yes I am sorry about the don't answer unless you are asked...but if you are asked....... really give it to them......tell them everywhere it hurts......and what that pain does to you what it stops you from doing...... brushing your teeth..does it hurt..taking a shower.....

do noises hurt or bother you.....light.... do your cloths hurt your skin when whereing them...what do you do to help stop the pain....

Your meds.... what side effects get in your way of your daily life....Please do not think that your attorney really has your back...because he is probably sleeping or thinking of another case he has....you are just a pay check to him......he knows the odds are in his favor once you are at the hearing..... it is your job to present yourself as you are everyday......why you are not able to work like the rest of the world..... a they will say a normal person...but someone please tell me what normal is.....

I'm SO happy that you're finally getting your hearing! I realize it's taken a couple of years- but you are a reminder to the rest of us, that there really is light at the end of this SSD tunnel.

You will do just fine. You've been given some great advice by the others. Be sure to keep us informed.

I'll be thinking of ya! Take Care!

Amy
