Good to know. thanks guys! I have pain in all 18 areas...but when pushed upon...it's doesn't hurt that bad...thats why I was wondering if I was correctly diagnosed. I didn't know if there were fibro patients that had pain, but not too much pain when pressure was applied to those areas. I will definately ask my doc more info whenI go to see her...thanks again for all you responses!

I was just diagnosed about two weeks ago, and I think I have a milder case than most people. I have pain in some tender points when touched upon, but not all of them. I also seem to get my worst pain in my upper arms, chest, and ribcage and most of this pain is a burning pain. I know those parts of the body aren't consistent with the tender points, but my rhematologist thinks it is fibro that I am dealing with. So I know where you are coming from when you question wheter or not you definitely have fibro.

I know for me, when I first had the visit with my doctor when he was attempting to diagnose me, the tender points weren't that bad for me. I don't think I felt a great deal of pain when he was pressing (I guess enough that he could diagnose me, though). Later on, however, I found that any pressure in those areas would nearly make me howl with pain. I don't know if I was having a better day the day he did the diagnosis, or what. They consistanly hurt when anyone or thing gets anywhere near them, now.

Also, there are definitely levels of severity in fibro cases. I've had years where I was mostly fine except for a few flare ups. Other times, the pain is bad for months at a time. I count myself very fortunate, though, because so many people on here can't even work. I have been able to continue with most basic activities throughout my illness.

And they say this disease isn't progressive.... Yeah right!

I have Chronic myofacial pain syndrome too, so in those areas [some same area as tender points] my muscles are hard as rock and you have to press really hard for it to hurt, thought I'm almost always in burning pain in those areas. They are just so tight...

Hi Beachbum-

I'm new here, and I have questions regarding the tender points too. I have just been diagnosed with fm, but I too am not that sensitive in many of the tender areas. I have a feeling in general that my skin is sore or something. I've wondered about my fm diagnosis as well because of the tender points being the main dx criteria. I also feel more pain in and around the joints than I do in alot of the tender points, but I have been tested for arthritis, and the tests have shown no inflammation. FM seems to be a hard thing to diagnose. I understand how you might feel like it is the wrong dx; I've wondered that myself. However, in my case I have lots of other symptoms that go hand in hand with FM which makes me feel it's pretty likely it's the right dx. It sounds like everyone has different experiences with FM. Talk to your doctor honestly about your concerns with the dx. I plan on asking more ?'s at my next dr's appt. too.

I know your feelings about not being sure the diagnosis for fibro is correct or not. I get so scared all the time when the pain moves around and most of the time it doesn't move to a tender point. This week I had a burning/stabbing pain in my armpit and then it moved to my hips. Now today I woke up with pain in my lower back and in my stomach mucles right above my belly button. I realize this pain was caused by my pants because the button digs in right where I feel the pain. When I go back to the rhemetologist, I am gonna ask hims if these pains are consistent with fibro.

Just an update, at my last appointment, 2/24, she checked my tender points, and I don't have all 18, or 11. I have pain in all those areas just not when palpitated. I do however have at least 6 when palpitated, and she is still comfortable with her diagnosis because I have so many other symptoms. She is also doing a huge lab work up, just to be on the safe side...and to put my mind at ease.

Just thought I would let you guys know!

Hope you are all well.=)

I too have been diagnosed w/ FM and dont really have the tender points but also have the pain in those areas but not to the touch.I am always thinking that maybe I dont have fibro but I have had every test known to man.So I guess I do.The pain in those areas is deep within like down to the bone but just not to the touch really.I also get the burning especially in my left shoulder blade but also in my back and legs as well as tingling and spasms.Sometimes it feels like electric shocks or something. Many other symptoms too.
