"I have been struggling with Fibromyalgia, Bipolar, Anxiety, Post traumatic Syndrome for quite some time and pretty much going it alone. I stumbled across MDJunction by accident. I stayed in the shadows and just watched for four days and then I joined, feeling relieved and excited to have found a safe place with alot of folks that I could relate to . It's proove to be medically and emotionally
helpful to me and now I can't go a day without coming in at least 4 or five times a day! I Love my family here.

Hi everyone, I'm back with yet another question!

I am reading a book Fibromyalgia for Dummies 2nd Edition. It's very informative.

In reading this it mentions the 18 tender points...I think that is the correct term. And that you have to have pain in at least 11 of these areas when they are palpitated in order to be diagnosed with FMS.

However I don't neccessarily have pain when touchedbut I do have pain in all of the tender point areas.

Does anyone else encounter the same thing?

My doc feels very confident with her diagnosis, and is still runnign additional chem labs etc...to check a few other things out. My pain also doesn't seem as sever as what some of you are going through...I mean I am very achey, and I have areas of muscle weakness, and I have this burning sensation through out my shoulders and back. I also have a lot of other fibro sympotoms that. But now I am starting to have my doubts about her diagnosis.

Maybe I am just in denial, or maybe I'm lucky enough to have a mild case, or perhaps I'm just at the beginning of this dissorder and it's going to get worse.

I don't know what to think anymore, I sound like a nut don't I?

I'm wondering...how long ago were you diagnosed?

The reason I ask is because 1. I'm sure you already said, but I forgot.

and 2. Because when I was first diagnosed...I wasn't NEAR as bad as I am today. I mean, I was bad...or I wouldn't have been dx'd in the first place...but you know what I mean!

So, it may be that your just at the beginning...I'm not sure!

Let's hope for you just having a mild case!!!

I don't know if either of the two things I just said even exist...but I know that I have personally, gotten worse. Of course...age is there as well!

Good luck...and please make sure that your doc DOES check for everything else!

My pain and other symptoms have gotten worse but I think Having children and the stress have something to do with it. I have had years where I felt much better and years where I feel much worse. I think it comes and goes.

I think that other things that happen make it get worse. I know mine started with a car accident. then I went into remission where i just had mild pain. Then I got injured again and never really recovered. I could no longer work more than part time after that. Even doing that made it so I couldnt do anything else the rest of the day. I would work for 4 hrs. come home and go to bed. I found I would have to go to dr more and take more meds. Finally I stopped we figured out it cost us more with me working than not.

I got worse too, but it doesn't mean you will. I could handle it for years and would never even consider going to a site like this . Meds were working and I could function as long as I took them. Thats over. No wonder every time I talked to someone and told them I was just diagnosed with fibro, they would give me this sad, sad look. Now I understand it was a look of " you will go thru so much, you aint seen nothing yet" I find myself giving that same look to people who are recently diagnosed.

Thanks for all your reply's...but can anyone tell me if they remember...did you always have pain when touched at your tender points, even early on? Or were those areas just achey and sore most of the time? I have an appointment with my doc on the 14th and will be asking her about this...but I was just wondering because what I read said that you have to have pain when pressure is applied to at least 11 of those areas for it to be Fibro...do you guys think that is a crock?

Thanks again everyone! =)

I know of a couple of people that have milder cases of FM. They even still work full-time! One of them doesn't get how I am in so much pain. But the other, when she has a flare-up, she totally understands my pain. -I think there probably are different degrees of Fibro. And I agree that something could set it off at any time.

I am affected by all the tender points but 2.

I remember having the achiness to those tenderpoints, even before being diagnosed. But then stress really set them off into major pain.

Good luck at your doctor's appt. Let us know how it goes!

I think sometimes you have fibro but dont have all those points that day. You may have them other days or have tender points somewhere else in your body. I have all those points plus other places. But I know when it first started I didnt have them everywhere.

I have had pain at the 'points' the entire time I've been dx'd as well as before I was dx'd. I mean, when pushed on...it hurt...some more than others!

And, no...I don't think it's a crock...it's actually one of the MAIN tests that they use to diagnose you!
