Hello all my Fibro family!

I'm here with some updates on my nephew. He had his scoliosis surgery today. Things went very well. They took their time during the surgery itself, 'cause his curve was at 95 degrees. It took about 7 hours from start to finish. He had to be at the hospital at 6:30 a.m. this morning. We got home tonight at 9:30 p.m.

When we left this evening, we were told that due to his brain injury he had some fluid in his lungs. They are keeping a very close eye on him. They tell us it's normal due to the amount of fluids he had to have during the surgery, 'cause it was so long.

My hubby and I stayed over in a hotel where he was having it done, 'cause it's a three hour drive from were we live to get there. My hubby also had an appointment on Monday in the very same city...that helped SO much! Still sitting in the waiting room, not to mention walking (almost jogging) around the hospital...WOW!!!!! Did it take its toll on me! I'm not sure how many of you are familliar with the UofM hospital in Michigan...that is where it was done. BIG place!!!!

Thank you all SOOOOOOOOO much for your prayers and thoughts! I think they helped! Smile

You guys are the greatest!

Your nephew is in my prayers. I have a 13 year old nephew wich I have raised, that has alot of ortheopedic problems due to childhood cancer (11 yrs in remission!!!) So I know how stressful hospitals can be. Get some rest! You can't help him with his recovery if your exhausted.

Thank you all! Mee1mee...I'm so happy to hear that your nephew is in remission for 11 years!!!! My brother had childhood cancer when he was 8. Sadly he lost his battle at the age of 11, but he's always in my thoughts. I'm telling ya right now...I'm going to rest ALOT tomorrow and the day after! I'm "out of work" till Lonnie gets home later this month...I guess I'll have plenty of rest. LOL! Wink

I'll sure pray for Lonnie, Bea! I've never actually been to U of M hospital, but I hear they're pretty darned good! I think that's actually the place where my cousin is in some kind of administrative position.

I don't have a clue how big that hospital is compared to Sparrow and Ingham in Lansing (the two I mostly wind up at to visit relatives, and where my son and youngest daughter were born!), but they're huge and you CAN put in a lot of miles traveling from waiting room to bathroom, to cafeteria, to get a breath of fresh air, etc...

When my mom had her latest bout of bladder cancer taken care of at Sparrow last month, she and my sister decided I was in bad enough shape at the moment that I should stay home this time. Rotten as it sounds, I was relieved. But hers was an outpatient thing.

I'm glad you were able to tough it out to be there for your nephew and his family! Knowing that you care so much must mean a lot to them!
