All we can find is that it was on 20/20 back in March of 2001. Then there are videos on the website you listed above that can be watched online, but I can't find anything that's gonna be on tonight!!! I'm gonna keep looking though....

Hoping to find SOMETHING!!!

Substance P is an excitatory neurotransmitter which is found in increased quantities in the spinal fluid of fibro patients; it is involved in the transmission of pain signals to the brain. Hope this explains it better than I could;I lifted it from a website that talks about biochemical changes in fibromyalgia:

"....Although the etiology of FM is not completely understood, the syndrome is thought to arise from influencing factors such as stress, medical illness, and a variety of pain conditions in some, but not all patients, in conjunction with a variety of neurotransmitter and neuroendocrine disturbances. These include reduced levels of biogenic amines, increased concentrations of excitatory neurotransmitters, including substance P, and dysregulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. A unifying hypothesis is that FM results from sensitization of the central nervous system. "

Thanks gals, I'll read up. But it definitely makes sense. Maybe that's why cranio-sacral therapy helps me. I can't afford to do it much, but it works with the ceribro-spinal fluid circulation and is supposed to help your body drain the toxins in it. Hmmmn.

Substance P at increased levels in spinal fluid. Hmm... Does that mean that testing via a spinal tap could lead to a definitive diagnosis of FM? It's probably a moot point since I, as well as most people, would never opt for this kind of very painful test! But there's got to be something other than just the trigger point testing for docs to jump to this diagnosis. What do you all think?

I wish I had known about Substance P when I had my Spinal tap done. They were looking for O bands instead.

I would never get one done again unless it was an emergency - hurt's pretty bad

Hopefully one day a better test will come out. It may take years, but someone out there will get it done.
