This happens to me all the time. It's so frustrating. Luckily my friends are used to it and are relatively patient. It's most frustrating to me when it affects my hearing. I'll be looking at someone, will have heard every single word they said, yet my brain translates it as Greek and I just don't understand. I've had to have someone repeat themselves 5 times until I finally understood what he was saying. It's extremely embarrassing when that happens.

I was thinking about this some more.... Don't you hate it when a doctor is patronizing about this topic and starts in about howmeveryone forgets things when they get older, I ( the doctor) forget things too.

You want to say "please don't minimize this"

I have it too! I always forget what I am saying or doing. Very frustrating. It did cost me my job as I could not remember how to do something that had done for daily for 25 years. I too tried to over compensate by checking and rechecking several times, but it still happened. I would go over in my head a million times as I set up what to do and still messed it up. If my doc had a change in plans as we worked, that really messed me up for the rest of the procedure.

HI Rosepedal, it's very nice to meet you. The fog is a tough subject. We joke about it alot because we all get it some degree. I believe that stress makes it worse...and the more you worry the more stressed you get. My job was very stressful and I began making mistakes....bad ones too. Then I started pretty much passing otu at my desk, my manager would walk into my office to find my head planted in the middle of a file.

Sleep is essential to fighting this fog. and de-stressing as well. When you are talking, try to pause from time to time so you brain can process everything you've said...sort of let it catch up. This is the problem from not enough sleep, your brain is unable to process things at a fast pace. I have to repeatedly tell my best friend to slow down in her speech cuz by the end of a story I have no idea what she is talking about.

I didn't even realize that I was going to have to stop working one day until I was "laid off" and replaced. It took about 3 months for me to even comprehend it and it depressed me to no end. Then I was "blackballed" in my industry as undependable and unpredictable.

I learned that being stressed out leads to being overwhelmed. That leads to terrible frustration and for me...frutration makes me start blurting out stuff that is just immediate reactions...when before I could keep my mouth shut, think things over and plan how I would handle things.

The good news is that you aren't crazy. My GP sent me for Alzheimer's testing (negative) which made my rheumy laugh cuz he understands the fog. I think once you know why, maybe you can try to alleive it...which means better sleep. Seems like everything we complain about comes back to getting better sleep.

Sorry for rambling, it's gonna be one of those days.

Glad you are with us, not glad you are sick! Hope to hear more from you soon. Keep us posted on how it's going!!!

HUGS

Dana

welcome to the group I dont think I have welcomed you yet..oh foggs are not fun but dana and others made a good point stress will make it worse..also for me I know when I am in a flair it to makes it worse..I say our brain is like a computer and deletes what we dont need at the time, stress and pain take up alot of space, so where your car keys are the cup of coffee or even kids birthdays are no longer needed it gets moved to a diffrent location...now a rule of thumb if you for get where you parked your car-normal, if you forget what car you drove-fibro fog, if you forget how to drive talk to your doc
we all have alot to give if one gets the help then some of this suffering is worth it..

remeber I am not a doctor I just say what I think
