Kittensky,

Love the post...I'm sure most of us have heard some if not all of those from people that are supposed to care about us and support us. Kinda funny, isn't it. Thanks for sharing it. HUGS

Please do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor.

From a generally healthy person:

"Oh, when I'm tired I... (whatever gets put in here is NEVER helpful). You should try that."

Same goes for "when my _____ hurts, I...", "when I can't sleep, I...", "when I can't concentrate, I...", "when I feel panicked/anxious/emotional/moody/stressed, I...", etc etc etc.

I try to remember that they're probably trying to help, but if one more person suggests that I "try drinking coffee", "take two Advil or an extra strength Tylenol," "try counting backwards slowly," "put unnecessary things to the back of my mind," or "take a deep breath", I might just cry. I'm all for new ideas to try, but it's got to be something with a liiiittle bit more thought to it. Unless you underestimate me so much that you think I haven't thought of coffee and Tylenol?

Really though, especially since I don't talk to most people about my fibro, I just thank them for the suggestion and say I'll try it. No harm, no foul.

I've heard all of these over the years...siiigh. Not usually from doctors but from friends who just think I'm tired or stressed out.(Anyone remember "iron-poor blood" from the old geritol commercials, lol?) I posted these on my fb page! Thanks!

healthy people are just so out of touch with people who are chronically ill. i get these alot too, esp , but u look so healthy, so pretty blah ok and i do take it as a compliment, that i look healthy but on the other end of the spectrum it is weird, cuz people judge u by how u look,( so very wrong) they cant see what is going on inside. so it is weird, like im happy i look healthy cuz last year i did not, but it is like, if u only knew. so i think healthy people are kinda clueless on life in a senese, what other people go through, that is why i can only relate to people with illnesses, they are a diff type of people, compassoinate, loving, caring, sweet, smart, etc.... have u all ever noticed that? helathy people are kinda into themselves alot, their lives while people like us are much more giving, and kinda. not that im knocking healthy people, im just saying this as an observation.

healthy people could just never get it, to have so many limitations in their life, and i think they dont want to get it, it isnt happening to them, so why should they care?

and they people who think we want to be like this are just cruel!!!!!

love

christa

I saw some neighbors this weekend and the first thing out of both their mouths was you look so good you must be doing better. Yeah - I had on make up for a change - thats all. I wanted to say Fooled you! Of course whats the use. They don't want to hear it anyway...Did the shifting from foot to foot not give it away??!!
