MDJunction to me

neshama48"Having Crohn's Disease for over 26 years, in the first few years, it lonely and isolating.
Though now my disease is in a near perfect remission, my friends and family are sympathetic to me, but I can not talk to them about this disease. When I stumbled across MD Junction, and met others who had the same disease I was not alone in battling the disease. MD Junction is like a second family, without the judgement or guilt of having Crohn's Disease, but they do give you love and support.

Thursday child is full of woe...

I'm having an exceedingly difficult time this morning. I stumbled over morning prayers I've been saying all my life, seemed to forget how to read Hebrew AND English, and can't type (see the heading of the post, lol). My pain level is at a 9, with no pain meds to take. Plus I cannot stay home today. I have a tea-tasting scheduled at the tea-parlour in town. I'd reschedule, but the proprietor is counting on me to be there. WWLMD? (What Would Lu Mo Do?) Why, he would center himself in his tea-mind and go! So, that is what I shall do.

I don't like to whine but do wish I had SOMETHING I could take when I get home today. The weather here has changed to cool and rainy. Weather changes are Hades! They cause a major flare of pain and fog and all-around clumsiness (what I call fibro-fumble, lol.) I can't even TALK as well. Sigh. Thanks for listening!!! Gentle hugs and good tea-energy to all!

A FMS flare from Hades, broken! This sudden weather change from exceeding hot to almost cold has me in major pain, fog, and fumble! I almost broke one of my beloved yixing teapots this morning!Sad I had a very active day yesterday. I'm going to spend today resting til noon, then get ready for my tea-tasting. If I weren't the one in charge of the tasting, I would have cancelled yesterday.

Yixing teapots are made from yixing (zisha) clay in Dingshan, Yixing, China. They are the pots used traditionally to brew black, oolong and pu-erh tea. Pots are usually used for one type of tea per pot and are NEVER washed after use, only rinsed, b/c the pot absorbs the tea-essence. It is said that after years of use, one can but pour water into a yixing pot and get tea! They are smaller than Western-style teapots and used for gong-fu style brewing, short 1-3 second infusions.

I love and treasure my yixing pots. I have 6. I even travel with several. I think I suffer from yixing addiction, lol. The thought of losing a favorite pot is MOST distressing!

Remember the virtual pets of a few years ago? Well, I care for my yixing just so!

Thanks for asking! -gentle hugs-

Are the pots glazed on the inside? I would assume they are on the outside at least to keep tea from leaking out, because fired (but unglazed) clay is porous. It might take a little while to leak out... but unglazed is the only way I can figure that it would absorb tea-essence. So I'm not sure here! lol

Althogh, there IS a way to polish unfired clay to get an almost waterproof seal... but I would think that would be almost impossible to do on the inside of the pot. I've done ceramics in the past, so I'm fairly familiar with techniques... just can't figure this one out.

no, moira, yixing pots are not glazed in either the outside or the inside. not being a potter, i don't know why they don't leak but do know that they are usually used for short infusions when brewed traditionally. You don't keep tea in them for prolonged periods as in western-style teapots.

i just had a strong cuppa ginger tea, which i've found slightly useful for pain relief, though right now i doubt even strong pain meds would make much of a dent. this is one of those days when i tell myself to just keep breathing, just keep walking...

but when i get to the tea-tasting, i hope to have a small window of clarity and calmness. high-quality tea will do that to me. Smile

Do you drink mostly Tea plant teas, or herbal infusions (herbal teas)? I drink the decaff black tea mostly, but I do like a lot of other teas. Don't like Earl Grey so much, but I like Lady Grey, it's a bit mellower. I love English Breakfast Tea. My problem is caffeine. I had to give it up becuase it made my heart race, and good, quality teas, don't usually have a decaf option.

I mostly drink tea made from camellia sinensis, i.e., from the Tea plant. Right now I am drinking mainly high quality aged pu-erhs and aged oolongs which I get from several online sites which have sources in small tea farms in China and Taiwan.

I do drink herbal teas, though, esp. after 4Pm. I like rooibos (South African Red Bush tea) and am planning on trying the new hibiscus tea offered by Republic of Tea.
