I have some of what my mother calls 'hot spots' in other places besides what you usually see in diagrams for fibromyalgia.

One on the front of each thigh and one on each side of my rib cage closer to my back (the ones on the ribs seriously hurt if I press on them even a little bit!).

Am I just weird or does anyone else have them in non-normal places?

Hi Kristy, I'm here to let you know that you are not weird.

I have them too. I have the outside of my thighs that I can't touch, My ribs on the left side under my boob, I have one each on the outside of my upper arms. Also have them just above the ankles on each foot and one huge one on my left front leg just a little over from the knee cap.

My first noticable symptom was a spot just to the upper right of my right kneecap and now the majority of my right thiegh is a hot spot.

I have the ones on the side of the rib cage. It is difficult at times to explain that tickling me hurts enough to make me want to cry no matter how softly you do it. I think the 18 trigger points are the consensus of a lot of people but not all that show up.

I have a lot of other "hot spots," too. A few of the worst areas are on the sides of my thighs, just above the knees, the scapula area (especially on the "point" closer to the spine), upper arms just above the elbow, and the list goes on. Often these "hot spots" move around, but the ones listed are always there. I agree, tickling hurts! My husband used to like to walk up behind me and run the tips of his fingers from my neck outward to the shoulder. He only applied light pressure, but it hurt so bad that I could barely stand it. I think that it is all part of the fibro, but the 18 trigger points are just the most common.
Gentle Hugs,
Carla

Wow I never really put the 2 together I always wondered why when my 15 lb dog would walk across my legs it felt like she weighed more like 115 lbs. Now it makes total sense. I know every time I shriek in pain over it my family looks at me like I'm nuts, thank you for putting sense to it. Also I totally agree about tickling, it has never been a pleasant experience for me. I could never understand why my daughter asked to be tickled. When you think about it like this there is a lot that can be explain when something you live with seems strange to everyone else around you. This DD is starting to make the rest of my life make total sense. Does that sound weird?

There is no weirdness going on here. I am pretty confident in saying that I think a majority of us have them in other spots as well.

Janilee - THAT IS TOO CRAZY! I have that huge one on my left leg on the inside of the leg close to the kneecap and about halfway down my leg. There is no way / no how anyone can touch it AT all. I am always protecting it.

I also have the rib one and the tops and underside of my thighs. I let my two year old grandson sit on my lap the other night and it was OK as long as he was just sitting still but when he got up, my muscles started cramping up and it hurt like a 'mutha'.

I also have one on the right side of my 'boob' close to my underarm.

OK now this is just weird! I have that same pain in my left breast as well, I notice it mostly when my left arm crosses over to my right side. Maybe I have breast cancer! no I'm just kidding.

Casty

I have them on both thighs, on the sides from just above the knees to midthigh. As a matter of fact, I rubbed there before I typed this and it still hurts...

My worst ones are on my ribs. Right at the end of the last floating rib. My husband has worn my handprint for tickling me and accidentally touching that spot. It hurts so bad I react before I can stop myself. Both my kids have guilty of it too. Now they no not to do it or at least duck very quickly.Laughing I have them other places too. They are not trigger points either. There is absolutely no sign of a knot. They are exactly like the other tender points. And I have all 18 that are shown on the charts. So if you are weird I am too.Smile
