MDJunction to me

jenniferdiva"MDJunction has been just an amazing support for me. The people who are on mdj are so nice! Unlike the many other support sites that I have been on. I have made several friends on mdj who are so supportive and so educated about mental illness. Of course non of us are doctors, but we certainly offer each other hugs, opinions, and advice. I have learned a great deal from my friends on mdjunction. I am also encouraging other people who suffer from mental illness to come on to MDJ. It can be a life line." (jenniferdiva)

hey hon, first of all you are not psychotic...not Brittany Spears is a different question! Smile I think you are thinking of a mental evaluation. I have had neurological work-ups and what they do is some simple tests like seeing if you can close your eyes with your hands stretched out and keep your balance, they have you put your arms out and go back and forth touching your nose with your forfinger, having walk with one foot in front of the other, and things like that. It is more to check and see if you have any problems with your nerves, with the arteries in your brain, and to make sure your brain is functioning properly. It is really easy and for me pretty painless. I too have had issues similar to the ones you describe and my prolem was that I had lots of tension and some nerve issues. I did physical therapy fora while and that helped some. I'm not saying that is your problem, but it is what they are checking for. I hoped this helped. Good luck and feel free to write me and ask any questions you might have.

Oh, and welcome to the family. This is a great place to be to vent, laugh, cry, ask questions, or just write down any random thought that comes to your mind. I cant wait to get to know you and see you in the forums! you are in my thoughts and prayers.

hugs,

soopergirl

hello, just wanted to agree with soopergirl, I had the neurological checks several times It's not bad. you have to go through all those specialist just so they can say what it is not by their test to rule out other conditions, they seem to float fms people between the rheumatologist and neurologist. Relax and hope you feel more reassured. Welcome.

By doing those tests sometimes they are looking for things like MS- not that you have that but we have some of the same symptoms of MS- numbness and tingling, fatigue, etc. I had it done too. It is not that uncommon. In fact my dad who has now died had Parkinson's disease and that is a neurological disease. Join the club as far as seeing lots of doctors and taking lots of tests.

Sure hope you feel better!!!

Just to add a comment to soopergirl's very good description: A full neurological workup may also include nerve conduction tests, especially since one of your docs thought you may have had sciatica and the pain through your hip to your ankle. Keep in mind, a neurologist specializes in the central and peripheral nervous systems of your body. He's not a shrink. He's only going to be concerned with whether your nerves are functioning properly. Sounds like you might have some pinched nerves or something like that anyway. Hope this helps to set your mind at ease!

Also, I hope you have a nice, cushy pair of tennis shoes for your new job! All that standing/running around with the tykes on hard pavement would do a number on a lot of people's backs and legs! Smile

Hello,

I am back and I had my work up and found Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus. Could it be that I have been mis diagnosed this whole time, or could I have both?
