"Fibromyalgia and Chronic Myofacial Pain" (Jno)

MDJunction to me

ThereseML"When I first came to MDJ, I was in need of peer support in dealing with issues of my childhood abuse. I was moving away from the painful issues and trying to find an uplifting group of people to help me transition to a thriver in my life. I found that here. I also found a group of peers with Fibromyalgia and found the same uplifting experience there. My computer crashed and it was a while before I found my way back, this time with issues related to Parkinson's Disease. I had tried a few other support sites before reminding myself of MDJ. On those, I never got a reply. I finally found my way back here and again found very supportive, caring and inspiring people who made me feel like I was 'back home'. Indeed I am." (ThereseML)

Are they 200mg Advil? If so, 4-200mg Advil = 1 Motrin. What have you taken and when?

Aleve(naprosyn) is a NSAID similar to Advil(ibuprofen), the big difference it that Advil lasts 4-6 hours and Aleve lasts 8-12 hours. You are right to beware of what's happening with your GI system.

Hoping you get relief,

Lisa

NSAIDS don't do much for Fibro pain UNLESS you have a co-morbid condition like RA, Lupus or other arthritis type thing going on. NSAIDs are anti-inflammatories. Fibro is not an inflammatory disease like RA and Lupus. Therefore, Advil, Aleve, Motrin, Asprin and the like do nothing for us. Unless, like I said, you have an inflammatory condition (like my degenerative joint disease). They are notorious for giving ulcers tho. They tend to eat thru the lining of the stomach.

If you have to take them, take with milk, or food, or Prilosec, Nexium or Tagament to protect the stomach lining.

Agree with MoiraWolf about the NSAIDs being for other stuff. For me they work ok(better than nothing anyway) on some areas that have arthritis in them. I am not supposed to take them at all because of GI issues but with no other choices I take them anyway. You'll also note that the bottles themselves say not to take over a certain amount of time. That's due to how harsh they are on the stomach. If you only have FM, then taking advil and such is basically like taking insulin for migraines. They aren't targeted for what is causing the pain. Now some do find some relief with them, but in my opinion those are probably people with either other small areas of inflammation from an undxed thing like tendonitis or something or people who are affected by the placebo effect.
