This is a question that has been bugging me for some time now, and don't hear much about it on here. I've had lseveral

Doctors and PT pointing out I might be holding onto the pain ( yeh, like I want to keep it) Wassat

because past events and the current trauma of cr accident thoughts need to be released.

My therapist tells me I am very active, and running away for the real issues in my life. Once I bring them out in the open, my pain will lesson and maybe even go away completely. She wants me to open to her, and dredge up all the icky stuff I've been through in the past!

Im in a good place right now. There's no need to go back there! Sad

I hear about mind, body and spirit, but I like to focus on the here and now, not the then..

I've heard this so many times, Its getting annoying... Is there something to this???

Anyone have a similar experience??

Will it help my fibro?

Is there a link between my fibro pain and my past experiences!? Ermm Sad

Be well in mind and spirit even though your body fights you daily with pain....love and light. Julz.

While I think that working through the past experiences might help your mental health as a whole(which does affect all other aspects) I don't think the physical pain will disappear. It very well may lessen it as holding on to bad things can increase your stress levels and worsen any depression/anxiety that's already there. They(past stuff) can also affect current things like relationships which leads to stress and other "normal" stuff.

I agree with hatbox completely. Work with your therapist and get the icky stuff out on the table. You'll be happier in your own skin in the long run and you may reap some additional benefits such as less pain. Take care.

Fibromyalgia is tied to our emotions, whether good or bad. Learning Coping skills can help reduce the stress, wich can relieve some symptoms. I use guided imagery (meditation), aroma therapy, talking to friends that have fibro, and a therapist.

Good luck julzy,

do you dredge up he past? or relieve it? please dont anyne be offended, but I believe f you go to a foot doc e will tell you al our pain is from there,you go to a chiro all your pain is due to no alinment, you go to a theropist and it is emotional crap..Im not saying that any are wrong, for they believe what they are saying..if your past comes back an haunts you, yes get it out work through it! like Hatbox said if you keep replaying lifes bad choices due to a past issue he stress will cause you more pain..it sound likeyour theropist feels you are holding your pain as a shield to not deal with past?
we all have alot to give if one gets the help then some of this suffering is worth it..

remeber I am not a doctor I just say what I think

Its called PTSD and and u do have to bring up the past even all it is unpleasant it does help now with that said u will still have fibromyalgia but we all no stress causes more pain so if u work though some stuff it is possible to have less pain or for some maybe no pain I no what u r going though bc i'm doing the same thigh with my doc we r doing this stuff EMDR u can look it up but it does seem to be working although some side affects r u may experience more symptoms for a day or so after u start but it brings everything out so u have to be willing to do so. It's taken me 4yrs to be ready to do this hope this helps.
Psalm 91

My Refuge and My Fortress

91:1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
5 You will not fear the terror of the night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only look with your eyes
and see the recompense of the wicked.

9 Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place—
the Most High, who is my refuge—
10 no evil shall be allowed to befall you,
no plague come near your tent.

11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways.
12 On their hands they will bear you up,
lest you strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the adder;
the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot.

14 “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him;
I will protect him, because he knows my name.
15 When he calls to me, I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will rescue him and honor him.
With long lifrwill I satisfy him, and show him my salvation.

I totally think that traumatic events whether they are emotional and or physical do cause pain physically and or emotionally or both.

Hang in there and take life a moment at a time and when you are ready you will talk about it. Don't put pressure on yourself because that will just add to the pain of Fibro. Wink

Wow! You all came up with some awesome responses.....I like what Broken said that each doctor looks at issues through their own lenses. I don't want to dredge it up, but I think the doctors feel I should try every avenue, and eventually something will help!! Stress is a major factor and does affect the level of pain....well, I have tried just about everything else, so I might as well give it a shot....it's like the ortho doctor told me to try injects, and I fought and fought until I finally gave in! They didn't help, but at least I can say I tried!!

My story is a long one, and not always pleasant to talk about, but will just have to get passed that. What do I have to lose anyway??

Thanks envy one for your thoughtful suggestions and comments. Hugs
