My pain specialest who is awesome btw said that narcs and anti anxiety meds if take regularly actually can put fibro patients in more pain. So if you need the narcs for pain talk to ur doc about using them just during the worst pain. Cymbaulta works well for not only depression but for anxiety too. OOOOO and bonus it helps fibro pain too!!Cool Narcs are in some sleeping aids too. This sucks when we my find a few things that will help us to find out they may make us worse in the long run!!!! Well that sucks because I have to have something for anxiety or I'm pretty useless... I do take cymbalta- didn't help and up to 60mg now- but helps with my bipolar disorder. I don't mix them all that much.

Everyone is different when it comes to Meds. I would be interested in the information and where the Pain Doctor is getting this information and how he can say that it would apply to everyone. That is what I find very difficult to believe. Just saying...Whistling

I have to take 90 mg of cymbaulta. I am also bi polar. However i have issues with most pych drugs. However cymbaulta has made it where i dnt have to take anti anxiety drugs. I think the less chemicals in ur body the better.

I will ask him the next time i see him. Actually he will love to hear that i have been talking with people. He pushs support groups. His thinking is we can all relate and help each other. I know he will not mind letting me know. It maybe kinda like tylenol products effect the liver. So some chemical in the drugs reacts with the nerves. Or the way the drug effects the nerves. But im not sure.

I also agree that the less chemicals in your body the better. Unfortunately, there are a lot of us that depend on these meds to get through the day. I have heard of rebound pain, that if you don't take the meds you are used to that it can turn around and bite you in the butt by making you hurt real bad. I for one, take narcotics for pain, but don't take any anxiety meds right now. I agree with Angel that with this disease you cannot put a blanket on all patients. Some people swear that narcotics don't help them at all, where I wouldn't have any life without them. Just always remember to do what's best for you. HUGS

Glad you are here- welcome to the group. I agree with your doc- very helpful to have support from people who share similar experiences. There are bipolars only groups, bipolars group, maybe I'll see you on those forumns as well!

It is thought that in fibro patients Natural opioids take up receptor sites that would be used by the poppy/pharmaceutical opioids. makes sense, because we are always in pain. The natural ones are not as strong as store bought. But I have read that we have to keep takng more and more pain meds in fibro. it is not the same as the phenomenon of tolerance. I have certainly found it to be true in my own case. one doctor who has a fibro book says that continued use of opiods can cause nerve damage in FM, eventually. Now that would be sad. I have stopped going up on my dosage. if this dose helps my back, that's all I'm going to take.

My pain doc says that taking continuous release pain meds, or taking meds by the clock all day is best. he says shouldn't take them as needed. Seems to be going ok with that. Have not raised dosage in over two years.

Sswelteer,

I am glad that is working for you. Like I said, it is best to do what works for you. I for one cannot take continuous meds cuz I would just be a zombie all the time. I take them as needed, the way my pain dr prescribed them.

Please do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor.

I don't take an anxiety med, but I do take a narc for pain. I don't take regularly, only as needed. It does take the edge off. I had heard the same thing about taking narcs. But it helps me.
