Thanx ( I guess ) for posting this. Scary to read how easily it is to get in big trouble quickly by not being honest w our doctors...Often the most innocent of ppl must stay in pain while many others slide thru the cracks.
I share from my experiences Only- I am not a medical or legal professional.

Yeah... it's horrible that people who legitimately need it, like that woman with back pain, can't find her meds for months at a time. Treating prescription drug companies, and doctors and pharmacists like south americand drug cartels?? While I realize that over prescribing is a problem with some doctors... that's a bit overboard.

a few will ruin it for us all! so sad..can you imagin warrents being handed to a walgrreen pharmacey while your in line,I imagin all the people on for refils were not able to get there meds..I think it is important to track down the "drug runners" but remeber us who suffer for it..doctors are affraid to help or treat chronic pain..and it is causing docs not to want to take chronic pain cases....scarey!
we all have alot to give if one gets the help then some of this suffering is worth it..

remeber I am not a doctor I just say what I think

This is a case of throwing the baby out with the bathwater! Sad. This is part of the reason some people have chronic pain that becomes so difficult to treat. So the cases become more and more. Not to mention that some people will begin using street drugs in an effort to find pain relief. So the true drug dealers will be making a profit, which is the opposite of what the DEA wants(I think).

The doctors in my hometown very rarely prescribe narcotic pain relievers anymore because of all the agencies cracking down on this. I realize that this is a drug problem, but the actions of a few are ruining it for everyone. A problem that I have come across is that my doctor will very rarely prescribe anything stronger than Tramadol; if anything more is needed, she shoves the patient off to a pain specialist. I told her that I will not go to a specialist for pain, the reason being is with our insurance, copay for PCP is $30, while a specialist is $60. I can't afford that! I am fortunate enough so far to not need narcotics for fibro, but I worry if and when that day comes, will I get relief or just be told to keep taking crap meds that don't work anymore?

My doctor's office makes every patient sign a contract when they are prescribed a narcotic. One of the stipulations in that contract is that the doctor can do a "pill check" whenever he/she feels like it. I don't think a single patient has ever had to do one of those. I think it would curtail the pill swapping, abusing, etc. if the doctors followed through with that stipulation. And why don't they start checking records at the pharmacy of the names of patients who take the pills and how often they refill? Wouldn't that give an idea as to who may be selling or abusing the narcotics? In Iowa we have to sign for every script that we pick up. If that's not to stop all this from happening, then what is it for?

OK, so those are my thoughts on the subject, hope I made sense, been pretty fatigued today Sad

Not long ago I had to go a week without my ambien refill because my pharmacy ran out. Now I see why. That's one of the worst things that the DEA is doing right there. They're causing a shortage of medicine! I understand why they're doing it, because of the get-rich-quick doctors feeding the addicts. But can't they find a more efficient way to do it? Most doctors, pharmacies and [bold]patients[/bold] are honest.

My doctors all know that I don't want to be on anything more than is absolutely necessary. I went off my ambien when I started this new med because I don't want a freaking flag in my file. It's the scammers that are [bold]once again[/bold] hurting the rest of us. And the DEA, jeez, you'd think they'd have a better way of policing this stuff. *smh*

I laugh, I cry, I live.
