My doctor has changed me from the morphine to tramadal can anyone tell me if they are useing it and how well it works? What kind of side effects can I exspect. The morphine was making me deathly ill and not helping with the pain at all. In fact I felt like the morphine was throwing me into withdrawl why is that ???

Hi desertmom; I take tramadol for my low pain levels. It works pretty good, with no side-effects. It really just takes the edge off. But when I have it really bad, I take my Darvocet. I try to stay away from the addictive drugs if possible.

Hi everyone, I take Vicodin and soma for pain. I was given Ultram but I didn't feel any relief and I felt really sleepy throughout the day on it, which I couldn't tolerate at work. For some reason, vicodin and soma do not make me drowsy. And I think maybe it was the time release factor too in ultram that I didn't care for.... I also wonder how much everyone takes. I know this will vary greatly, but my doctor has cut my meds down to 3 soma and 2 vicodin a day, which is a little difficult for me when I'm working. I can take those throughout the day just to get through. Not everyday, and I try everyday to wait, wait.... Am I taking alot comparitively speaking?

I also tried the Vicodin. Man it works great. But again theres the issue of being addictive. It is so hard to walk that thin line. I used to be an electrician, and I know I could never have worked while under the influence. There was too much high voltage involved. I didn't need that risk.

I take Tramadol (same as Ultram). I take 50 mgs at a time. When they first started me on it, I could take up to 4 a day, then 6 a day, and then 8 a day. It didn't seem to help unless I took 8 a day. But taking that many made me sick to my stomach.

They then switched me to Darvocet (same as Vicodin) which didn't work.

Then they switched me to Hydrocodone. But I am leery of the drug because it can be addictive. And it doesn't really help.

Now I am taking around 6 Tramadol a day. Then on really bad days, I take a Hydrocodone in addition to the Tramadol.

I think with all of us, it's just a trial thing. Each of our bodies are different and handle things differently. I wish you the best in whatever you try. And hope that you find something that works for you. Take care!

You're absolutely right when you say we're all different. We see that more and more on this site. That's another reason this site is so wonderful. I don't worry about addiction to Vicodin. I've been taking it at different levels over the past two years. More after my disk surgery, but then cut back down. I don't really feel it except I notice the pain subsides. Maybe I am addicted to some extent, but I look at it this way. I functioning. I work full-time. Go to school half-time (mostly online classes) and support and encourage my youngest who's in his 2nd yr of college. Other than that, I don't do to much. The occasional dinner/movie. But I really have to be careful of how much I do. But still, I think I shouldn't be taking these pills because they're opiads and supposedly bad. I dunno... Thankfully, I was divorced and my kids were grown before everything hit me so bad.

The thing is , I have been on opoids for about 4 years and the morphine he gave me made me very sick it says its like a narcotic but isnt what I need to know is whats that going to do to me scince being on a high dose of pain meds, I see some of you take one or two vicodins a day well I was taking a percocet 10/325 every 6 hours. I dont want to go threw withdrawls its awful and if it barley works for those of you who only take a couple pain meds a day that means its not going to do anything for me, other than put me threw withdraws .

I take Ultram (200 mg) a day. It helps a little. It did take a while to get used to the way it made my stomach feel, but I am now. I also take topamax because I had seizures when all of this got worse. The docs kept me on it because apparantly there are studies that it helps people with chronic pain. I honestly don't know if it does or not. The other pain meds help when I have housework to do or cooking (housefull of people and pets).

I would give the Ultram a try. But give it a chance. It might bother you for a while. Take it at night at first.

Good luck.

I take Tramadol 50 mg four times a day and as long as i stick to the four times a day i can manage fairly well if i dont do anything to streneous but as soon as i miss a dose then the pain comes back full force. When i have break through pain i will either take 2 Tramadol or a Tramadol, 1 NSAID and 1 acetamenaphine. I am nauseated most of the time so i dont think the pain meds give me that side effect. I have hot and cold flashes and vivid nightmares most everyday but all of these things has been happening before i started the tramadol almost 3 months ago.
