I have already applied for SSD a couple of years ago,but because I am not seperated and not able to work,I made an appoitment tomorrow to apply for SSI for both myself and my mentally impaired 18 year old daughter. I know SSI is based on income which is no problem since all I get is what my ex can give me. I don't want to depend on him for money and this is all a temporary thing until I can get the disability for both me and Kristin. I was if anyone has been throught this process and can tell me about ho long this takes.

I get some money from my soon to be ex,but I want to be able to stand on my own ya know?

I am also going to check on Medicaid. I have to know how much money we can get through ssi and then later ssd first. He has the insurance on both of us,but if we divorce I will lose my insurance and I can't have that happen so if i can get medicaid until I can get my medicare, which is 2 years after the disability is approved. It's an awful reason to stay married, but i gotta do what i gotta do ya know? Unless if he doesn't have to give me money after we get our ssi or ssd,he agrees to pay for my dr. visits and meds, which is a possibility.

Sorry i seem to ramble on. Today I feel really bad and the depression from the pain and the loss of this marriage coupled with the fact there is something wrong with my truck and I don't know where i'm going to get the money to fix it has made for a very bad day again.I feel like I am living someone elses life and I want MY LIFE BACK!! And then I realise this is it........

Awwwww Sherry...I'm soo sorry you're having such a bad day!

Don't be sorry to "ramble on"...you're not rambling...you're sharing and venting and that's a GOOD sign. You're getting it out and that's GREAT! I sometimes feel that I don't want to 'vent' on here because I feel guilty about it. Ya know?...I don't want pity or people to feel sorry for me. BUT...then I realize, this group is FULL OF OUR FRIENDS! And...we're all here for our own reasons. Yes, we're in the Fibro group for Fibro. BUT...I've made soo many wonderful friends that I can talk to about ANYTHING. And...I don't feel guilty doing it because I know that they care...everyone here CARES!!!

So please...remember that! I'm here for you...ANYTIME!!! PM me ANYTIME if you want to. Even if you just need a shoulder! I'm here for YOU as much as I am for myself!

I'm applying for SSI on Monday. I don't know how our states might differ, but I've heard the NORMAL time for Fibromites is about 2 years. BUT...I've also heard of Fibromites being approved right away and on the other side of the coin...taking up to 5-6 years and that's with the help of a lawyer!

So, it sounds like we may be going through this at the same time! Well, we've got each other for support throughout it then! No matter how long it takes...I'm here for you! I wish you luck and hope you can get approved quickly!

Keep us updated ok??

I do wish you the best...keep your chin up...like you have been!!

Sherry,

I applied for SSI about six months ago and I was denied. Social Security didn't even bother to get all of my medical records. I couldn't believe it. I have an attorney now who is appealing the case. He told me that he feels I have a strong case, not only because of my medical conditions, but for the simple fact they did not bother to get all of my records. He did tell me it could take anywhere from six months to a year. I am prepared to wait and believe me, if I get denied I will appeal again! Right now I am surviving on spousal support and I as well have to depend on him for his insurance. It stinks. I can't even sit through a movie on t.v. let alone work. Good luck to you and everyone else who applies. WE ALL DESERVE IT!!!

Terri
