Hi my name is Rob and I come from Qld Australia. I am a 55 years old female

I live is a small western town and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about 8 years ago, it is amazing how the gp's we get out here do not believe in it!! I get anti inflamatories and weak pain killers given to me. Now I have a new pain, it is in my left arm. It started in my left shoulder blade and shot to the arm. I woke up with it 3 weeks ago and it has settled slightly. The doctor said I had pinched a nerve but I said it was like muscle spasms, and would just take my breath away and bring tears to my eyes. Now it has started to make my fingers numb. The relieving doctor here now has told me to go and get a X-ray of my spine.... He doesn't know what it is. I have told him about the fibromyalgia, .....

My arm is also very weak....

I wondered if anyone else has the same symptom?

Thanks

Robb2

I have pinched nerves in my elbows, so experience something that is likely similar to yours. I'm not sure why you were sent to have an xray, because that's not going to tell the doc if you have a pinched nerve or not...but, doctors are always "right". Grin

Hi Robb and Welcome to our group ~~~

I experience the same thing as you describe with my left arm (elbow to wrist) and down into my hand. Very aggravating as never know when I ll drop something I pick up and cannot open jars etc. with that hand at all.

I agree with Bananers that an x-ray cannot show nerve problems but I would keep after your dr. to figure out the problem before it gets worse.

I had the emc thing in my left arm. I contributed it to fibro since fibro moves around. It has eased up but I can still feel discomfort in my shoulder. I still get tingling in my fingers. I have constant pain in tmj forearm.

I agree, an X-ray probably will not show anything.

Hope you feel better soon.

hello welcome to the group, yep but mine is the right arm, also goes from my ear jaw down to shoulder arm and fingers...is it certain fingers?

you do need testing to rule out a disc nerve problem, I have had alot of testing docs are baffeld went to three and they all said pintched nerve, they just cant find the pintch..so I gave up and chalked it to firo, with the tightness of the muscels and being our arms are used the most, infamation and nerve squezzing to me makes since..

welcome to the group and keep us updated

we all have alot to give if one gets the help then some of this suffering is worth it..

remeber I am not a doctor I just say what I think

Hi Robb and welcome to the group!

Sounds like it's time to fire your doc and find a new one! Remember, they work for you, not the other way around.

I agree, it sounds like a pinched nerve, probably in the neck area, tho it may be in the shoulder. I don't have pain in my arms like you describe, but I sometimes have numbness in my fingers, especially if I've been crocheting a lot. I have to look at the crocheting to do it (as opposed to knitting which I can do mostly by feel unless I'm working a complicated pattern stitch). That constant looking down will pinch a nerve and start my fingers, usually pinky and ring finger, to go numb.

I'd think an MRI of the cervical spine would be in order.

I am not a medical doctor and any medical opinion I give is based on personal experience and/or research. It is not intended to suppliment or replace your doctor. Follow at your own risk.

Thank you Moira,, the relieving doctor has told me to make an appointment at the nearest diagnostic centre for an X-ray of my spine (80km away) so I will endeavour to that this week. I quite often get numb fingers in my right hand when driving on long trips, I just have never had the pain like this before.

Thank you for your input, I appreciate it Wink

Thank you all, it is so frustrating because if you have a broken arm or something people see the cast and give you a bit of slack!!! But having something unseen, you are quite often seen as a hypochondriac!!!!
