Just wondering if anyone else suffers from heartburn that seems to be med induced? I have been careful about the types of food I have been eating, but still suffer w/ the heartburn. It kept me awake from 3am on this morning. Anyone have any ideas to combat the discomfort?

I used prilosec. It took a long time to get rid of it. I still have problems again when takin nsaids and some foods. Good luck getting it under control.

Hi Coolmamma,

I have acid reflux (gerd), which i think is the same as heartburn. I do think mine came from all the meds I have been taking the last six years.

I now take aciphex 20mg twice a day on empty stomach before breakfast & dinner. This is prescribed to me, I did have an endoscopy done which also confirmed it.

In the meantime, have you tried to take (Pepcid), you should probably take before you eat & I think you can take it twice a day. If it gets out of hand, maybe you can go to the doctor. Feel better.

Thanks for the advice. I did pick up some zantac from the pharmacy which helped at first. The symptoms seemed to go away for about a week and a half then came back with a fight. I do feel better today. I just am not sure how long to let it go before I consult a dr. I really don't want any more meds - am on 6 diff ones already. If it gets bad enough though I may not have any other choice.

Coolmamma,

I also suffer from heartburn/acid reflux. Fun isn't it? I take prilosec which seems to help. All these glorious side effects we have to put up with. I try not to eat anything that will aggravate it but sometimes I do indulge!

My dr said you could use the 150 zantac for the heart burn. I found that was good for when it was real bad but using the prilosec for 8 weeks took it away for the most part. Hope that helps.

Do you have to take the Prilosec every day or just when the symptoms come back? The problem that I have is that it will last for a few days then seems to go away, sometimes for a few days or weeks at a time. I never seem to know when it's going to come back. As if the pain isn't enough, the side effects are just lovely. LOL

I know you don't want to start another med, but when my dr. put me on protonix, which helps to produce less stomach acid, it helped tremendously, that along with tums or pepcid. Feel better.

leslie

They just came out with generic protonix, it was expensive

I had to take it everyday for 8 weeks. Then it seemed like heartburn was finally under control.

Thanks again for your info. It's helpful to see what other people have done so I can figure out what is best for me.

I get frustrated. It seems like once I get one thing a little bit under control, another thing hits me along side the head. I am trying to keep my spirits up but feel like I am fighting a battle inside my head today. I have no energy & don't feel great although the heartburn is less today. Don't mean to complain, just throwing my feelings out there so I can try to get them under wraps.
