Hi Everyone,

My doctor recommended that I try something called relaxation yoga. I was curious if any of you had tried yoga or any other form of excersize similar to it to help with your fibro.

I keep reading that staying active, and excersizing and stretching can be very beneficial to fibro patients.

I was just curious to here how some of you have found this helpful to your day to day struggles with this dibilitating dissorder.

I can't seem to find the time to take a class out side the house, so I was thinking of getting a DVD or someting??

If you have antyhing to add I would love to hear it.

Thanks!

I just started a beginners class and so far it has been helpful. I find that I have to be very careful and go slowly and trust my body to tell me when I have stretched too far...and it always does. There are a lot of good DVD's out there but if you are trying yoga at home it is harder to be sure that you are holding the poses correctly, whereas a live instructor is able to help you position your body. I take my class in the evening and after class I take my Ibuprofen and Flexeril because I am usually a little sore. It is challenging but worth it because I am so relaxed by the ending meditation, which is more designed to relax the mind.

I have tried yoga on several occasions and the only problem was you have to constantly change your position with blankets and pillows and blocks and it was too hard without help. I might try again because my old teacher just started a lighter version for people in pain. They are telling me to try Tai Chi, I just dont know, but anything you can do for relaxation would be great.

I do yoga for arthritus... it seems to help me quite a bit... I'd probably benefit more from a class b/c I'd have to stick to it tho

I'm so excited. This is something I might actually be able to help you with. I just started doing yoga two days a week with other teachers at my school. The stretching really seems to help me even if I can't possibly get into most of the poses (I just do what I can). We found a great free site that has daily yoga sessions. But, you can go back to others and pick the level you want, etc. You just need your computer. Here's the website. Good luck. http://www.yogatoday.com/
