I am so tired of my eyes hurting so badly - especially my right eye! I have so many eye drops and salves - I sleep with gel eye things (sorry the word left me.) I am a mess - I'm so afraid I am going to loose my sight. I see my eye dr every other week - Is there anyone else that has this problem? Is there a certain eye doctor for fibro?

My eyes are extremely dry which can be a symptom of Fibro and/or the drugs we are on. However, I do believe my eyes were dry prior to the drugs.

Sometimes they are soar, burning, feel like a knife is going through them (which can also be attributed to migraines.)

Perhaps you can have an eye doctor test the dryness of your eyes. With other symptoms he may want to look at your eyes with instruments to see if anything else is going on. Who knows, he may even order a cat scan. But I think an optometrist would be a good choice. If there is an issue, then an Ophthalmologist would be the next specialist. I think you can see an Ophthalmologist first but that may depend on your insurance, if you have any. For instance, for the initial check ups it would not come under health insurance but eye insurance. However, if there is a true medical issue then health insurance may take over.

I'm an Advocate

I have been noticing that I, too, have eye pain much more often than I ever did prior to Fibro.

The other night I was miserable and when I tried to describe how I felt to hubby, I said ""I can t figure out if a headache is causing my eyes to hurt or my eyes causing my head to hurt"" ... Sad

I ended up taking Tylenol and going to bed very early . It was pretty much gone the next morning but I felt ""out of it"" most of the day .

What has your eye dr. said about your pains ?

Marilyn

I have the same problem and have had the same thoughts. My eyes hurt so bad and they get red and dry then watery. Sometimes I feel like Im gonna wake up one day and be blind. Dont think it is from my medication since the only thing I take is Vicodin right now. And it did that before I started that. I have not been to an eye doctor yet though...kinda scared to ya know.
Taking it day by day!

Have polymyalgia ever been mention to you. This can be mistaken for Fibro. Dry eyes is one of the signs. Read up on it and see if it could be possible. My eyes does the same.

I think an Ophthalmologist would be able to diagnose the problem. With them doing the dilating they can see more.

See an ophthalmoligist. Optomitrists are only for prescribing eye glasses, Opticians are for making glasses. Ophthalmologists are eye doctors and surgeons and treat all manner of problems with the eyes that the others can't.

I don't have the same kind of problems, I'm just near-sighted as all hell. You know that giant E on the top of the eye chart? I can't even see the wall the eyechart is mounted on, much less make out that E at the top!

But no, don't usually have a problem with dry eyes except late at night or if I've been up a very long time.

I am not a medical doctor and any medical opinion I give is based on personal experience and/or research. It is not intended to suppliment or replace your doctor. Follow at your own risk.

Realityworld I have seen a ophthalmoligist because a while back someone mentioned polymyalgia could be mistaken for Fibro. He tested and said no. I've mentioned before I have a cornea diease called Thygeson - auto immune. When I get stressed it flairs up. But since the first of the year my left eye has felt has given me so much pain (it feels like whenyou scatch your cornea) thats how it feels all the time. This is my schedule right now.Refresh Plus x 6, Refresh PM left & right, Sustain as needed left only, Restasis x 2 rt & lt,Zigan x 5 rt only. I'm trying to work full time it's crazy but even this does not keep them mosit all the time. I have a humidifier in my office to help. I have read more articles taking about more of us (Fibromites) loosing sight in one eye or both and I'm really getting scared.

I have dry eyes as well. Not during the day though. Only at night. So I get corneal abrasions according to my eye doc. I'm wondering if you've been checked for glaucoma. I'm not saying that's what it is. However, that causes eye pain and you didn't mention that. It could also have nothing to do with your eyes. There's a kind of migraines that affect the eyes only. Can't think of the name of it right now.
