face, brush your teeth and wash your hair?

besides being terribly exhausting, i just have to work up the nerve before i can wash my face

so the difficulty is 1. performing the act (wash face) then 2. being subjected to the act (have your face washed)(feels like the water is assaulting your skin... the change in sensation from being on dry land to water)

sometimes in the morning i putter around the house putting stuff back in its original place rather than wash my face bc putting stuff back is just 1... while washing your face is 2 (see above)

anyone else have similar experience? i guess you have to be pretty sick to feel this way?

Showers bother me terribly and whether I am taking a bath or shower, the water temperature has to be about 86 to 90 degrees. Too hot or cold and it hurts. I take showers VERY often, even though it hurts and it s bother and tiring. Between the FM, hormonal issues, being somewhat overweight and living in Phoenix, AZ, I am ALWAYS sweating!! It is one of the most embarrassing things to have to blot sweat from my face no matter where I go. My hair has to get washed every day (sometimes twice a day in the summer). Forget about wearing makeup; it melts off my face within 5 minutes!! It does not hurt when I wash my face unless I use a washcloth that is too rough. It is awful that you experience such extreme discomfort when you are doing something that can be as gentle as washing your face. I can say, however, that the whole process of washing up, brushing teeth, etc., (looking human!) is exhausting. And I always thought we were supposed to feel invigorated after bathing!!!!!!

Hang in there!! Use baby wipes, powder, cologne, deodorant, whatever you have to..............or just stay away from people.

My husband changed the shower head in our bathroom once and I thought razor blades were coming out! Needless to say, he put the old shower head back on. (It is one of those really big rain type ones)

i have a nice shower head we put on made from kohler..... took off the beating one that the apatment has orginally... and i can take showers.... even when i was at my worst as log as i could get to the bathroom i would clean up.... like i have said in a few other post i rather be clean then eat lol.... and that was usually the choice for the day eat or be clean....i traded out my old wash cloths for new soft ones and shower head for a less powerful one... and hubby had to be in the shower to hold me up so i wouldnt fall over... so yeah you really need to find a combination of meds that work for you or softer stuff to use

I haven't had too much trouble with the water being painful yet. I hope I don't. But I suggest using wipes (unscented, hypoallergenic) when you need to freshen, or maybe a soft wash cloth moistened to wipe off.

If you have a hand held shower head. Try changing the setting. At times I would just get in shower after hubby did or those grands. They like for the water to hit hard, where I needed a different flow. The hard flow would hurt my back. But if you can just take your hands, cup water in it and wash with hand to kinda give you some type of freshness. Then hopeful later you can do it right. As in another thread a shower chair has been mention. Also a handheld shower head. Getting face washed and sallymae freshen up will make you have a better day. Good Luck

I would say like several of us who are hypersensitive to touch water can be painful..I to have a large shower head so it is helpful.up to a few years ago I had to have steaming hot water to bare it now it has to be warm not hot..actually kind of glad about that..

and for me and I know Marbi, having trouble with our arms it makes brushing hair teeth blah blah feel like a chore, and then the fatuige after words again from pain makes some days very hard to due the ruetine..

we all have alot to give if one gets the help then some of this suffering is worth it..

remeber I am not a doctor I just say what I think

Thank goodness I'm not that sensitive yet. I'm getting more sensitive to temperature range, but not to skin sensations. I can handle water hitting me, wash clothes, a shower pouf... none of them bother me, I just have to watch out for the temperature.

You're right, RW, the handheld shower head is great. Mine is a double head and the type of spray is adjustable so my husband can have a strong, hard spray, and mine can be more like raindrops. Some sponges are very soft and with a squirt of liquid soap, you can gently wash over your whole body without having to "scrub".

RW. My mom always told me to be sure that I had clean undies on in case I am ever in an accident. She never mentioned anything about keeping "SALLYMAE" clean and refreshed........Now that can CAUSE an accident!!!!! Sallymae!!!! Now I NOW that you you are a nut!!!! Where did the name come from??? What do you call the male counterpart??
