My appointment is on Tuesday with my primary care doctor and I am dreading it. I never get any answers or pain medications. I am bringing my oldest daughter with me (she is 22) so she can confirm what my daily life is like. I don't think he takes me too seriously because he tells me to continue physical therapy and take advil. He is not a big believer in pain medication. He has been my doctor for most of my life and I never had any problems with him until now. My Rhuematologist is the same way. I'm afraid to leave him because I do not know of any other doctors that will take me seriously. Also, his son is in my youngest daughters class and they are friends. I see my doctor all the time at the school, so it would be pretty awkward if I left. How can I convey to him that I can't cope with this pain anymore. I take a pill for depression, a pill for anxiety, a pill for migraines, a pill to sleep, so he can't tell me that there isn't a pill out there to take the edge off my pain. Any suggestions?

HI...Terri..... if it were me I would find a new doctor that wants to listen to you.... I think I would look for a Pain Management Dr.... But your Primary Doctor has to be working with you no matter what...if he is not...... find one that will

I agree with craig, altho its easier said than done. Its worth the hassle once you find a sympathetic dr. These "advil" drs. I would like for them to feel this pain for just one day. They would be writing themselves perscriptions all days and crying and whining. I often think of maybe a twilite zone where all of these idiot drs could be in our shoes. Great thought, huh?

Terri430,

Welcome to the site

I think it's a good idea to bring your daughter, I have done that in the past quite often, or my husband. Last week my son drove me & a couple other times. The doctor came out & got me & knows my kids now, because he will say; is that your chaeuffer today?

I have an appt with a new doctor in march & my husband will be coming in with me, whenever you have someone with you, or at least in my experience the doctors are much more willing to listen & not blow you off.

Best of luck & let us know how you make out.

Hi Terri! My heart aches for you hun! I've been in your shoes before and it's not a comfy place to be, is it? I agree with the others that have said that finding a new doctor may be in your best interest. I know it's a giant hassle (I just found a new doctor yesterday myself) but the outcome is so worth it!

Hang in there! There is a doctor out there that will listen to your needs and give you the help you want.
